Samsungs new Series 7 Chronos goes on sale:
The electronics giant Samsung has put its latest laptop in the hands of the retailers. It is the new Series 7 Chronos, it will offer the user the latest Ivy Bridge processing power from Intel, graphics from Nvidia and there is 8 GB of express cache memory available too. Although it has to be said that even 8 GB for cache memory might be a little tight for some users.
Let us have a look at what the new Series 7 Chronos has to offer! It comes with a nice sized 17.3 inch full high definition 300 nit display with a 1920 x 1080 of pixel resolution and there is even room to include a 1.3 mega pixel web camera into the frame.

It is powered by the well endowed Intel Core i7-3615QM processor running at 2.3 GHz and with graphics coming from the NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 2 GB graphics card. There will be a useful 8 GB of RAM, while the storage is covered by a huge 1 TB hard disk drive (HDD) and only 8 GB of ExpressCache NAND Flash memory, which some consumers may not think is enough.

Networking comes via the built in 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi and Intel WiDi (Wireless Display) support. Other features will include two fast USB 3.0 ports, two standard USB 2.0 ports, a 4 in 1 multi card slot, VGA port, HDMI out and for great audio there is the JBL stereo speakers and subwoofer.

At one inch thick the brushed aluminium shell still weighs in at a hefty seven pounds, although that is with the 8 cell battery installed that Samsung claim will be good for up eight hours of operation.
The Samsung Series 7 Chronos laptop is available online and in stores now with a starting price of $1,500, but as we know, it is rare that any buyer will come away with a new Series 7 Chronos laptop for the actual starting price!

McLaren Celebrates 40th Anniversary of its First Indy 500 Win:

Back in the late 1960s and early 1970s McLaren dominated the spectacular Can-Am race series. It’s easy to forget that the innovative race car manufacturer also took a stab at Indy car racing with some good results.
Forty years ago on May 27, 1972, McLaren claimed its first victory at the Indianapolis 500 with Mark Donohue behind the wheel of the Offenhauser-powered number 66 car entered by Penske. McLaren went on that year to become the only team in history to ever win at Indianapolis, in Formula 1 and 2 and in Can-Am in the same year.
To commemorate the 40th anniversary of its first win at Indianapolis, McLaren will be participating in the second annual Celebration of Automobiles tomorrow (May 12) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway infield.
You’ll find the 1972 winning McLaren M16B will be displayed along with other cars from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum. “McLaren has a long and rich history in racing, especially in North America,” explained Tony Joseph, Director, McLaren Automotive Inc. “We couldn’t be more proud to celebrate the 40th anniversary of McLaren’s first win at Indy within the same year we launch McLaren Automotive, our own dealer network and our first model, the MP4-12C.”
Although it was a Penske-entered McLaren that won in 1972, McLaren’s own factory team won in 1974 and 1976 with Johnny Rutherford driving. Officially 1976 was the last year an Offenhauser-powered car won Indy, although the record books show that A.J Foyt won in 1977, driving his own Coyote car with a modified version of the engine but bearing his own name instead of Offenhauser.
McLaren captured one more record at Indy in 1977 when Penske’s Tom Sneva, driving the Norton Spirit McLaren M24/Cosworth, became the first driver to qualify for the Indy 500 at more than 200 mph. His one-lap track record was 200.535 mph, which put him on the pole, but he managed only a second place finish behind A.J. Foyt.
Here’s more trivia for you – McLaren’s win in 1976 was the last time a car (not just the engine) bearing the name of a manufacturer of road-going cars won the Indy 500. In fact McLaren is one of only five current manufacturers of road-going cars to have ever won Indy. The others being Lotus, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz and Peugeot.

A few years ago the thought of sending 295 lbs.-ft. of torque and 276 bhp just through the front pair of wheels would cause many a head to shake in disbelief.
Anyone who drove the 225 bhp Saab 9000 Carlsson will vividly recall the arm wrenching torque that was induced under harsh acceleration, a characteristic that was heightened with the merest suggestion of a damp road surface.

Well GM reckons it has got it cracked in the latest Astra VXR which employs a mechanical multi-plate limited slip differential for optimum traction.
The unit, derived from that used in the Corsa VXR Nürburgring Edition, is made by motorsport component manufacturer, Drexler. It creates its locking effect with a ramp angle of 45 degrees under acceleration and 90 degrees under deceleration. The overall effect is enhanced traction on-throttle, when it’s needed, and reduced lock-up off-throttle, when it’s not.
Does it work? I’ll tell you in a few weeks after I have sampled the car here in the UK.

2012 Silverstone Classic

2012 Silverstone Classic:

Its organizers maintain that the Silverstone Classic (July 20-22, 2012) is the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival and, going by the success of last year’s event with a total of 1104 race entries and 80,000 in attendance, it’s a pretty strong claim.

The wide ranging races will feature no less than 100 Grand Prix cars as well as spectacular Le Mans, GT, Group C, the Jaguar E-Type Challenge and new races for both F5000 and F2 cars that will be named after the late Peter Gethin, who died last December.

Also honoured will be car entrant Alan Mann whose distinctive red and gold liveried saloons and sports cars were an essential part of the UK’s and Europe’s racing scene in the Sixties.

The popular Morgan one-make fund raising race will take center spotlight as well and, yes, that is Sir Patrick Stewart, aka Jean-Luc Picard, posing for pictures as he will be racing at Silverstone next July. He told me that his only previous competitive drive had been at Long Beach “some time ago” although he admitted at not being terribly quick.

I hitched a ride for a few slippery laps in Alex Bell’s gorgeous Bizzarini, one of only two right-had-drive models made and fresh from a six-figure Sterling rebuild.
Although the drizzle had eased off by the time we were on track, it was viciously slippery and every time Alex planted his right foot the rear end broke traction. Heroics, I am glad to say, weren’t the order of the day but, even so, Alex worked up quite a sweat keeping the Italian car tame.

The Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich kernel source code for HTC One X is finally available for download. HTC makes this code available on the day the One X is released on AT&T. The HTC One X comes pre-installed with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The code files can now be downloaded from the HTC Dev Center.

Only recently HTC launched it’s latest One line of Android powered smartphones. The HTC One X is greatest of them all. Initial reviews about this device have been positive and it surely looks like HTC has hit a home run with the One X. The device was first announced on February 26th at the Mobile World Congress 2012. As previously mentioned, HTC One X is the flagship device of One series. It’s powered by Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich and HTC Sense 4.0.
Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is Google’s latest version of it’s mobile operating system. The internet search giant hasn’t had much luck with this major update as currently less than 2% of all Android devices in the world are capable of running this update. That is largely due to compatibility issues. The first device to run on this software was Google’s very own Nexus S. The One X comes pre-installed with this software and does a pretty good job of running it without any noticeable glitches.
Earlier today HTC One X officially became available on AT&T. Those who reside in the USA can get the One X from AT&T if they want, it’s available from a wide variety of other carriers as well. Now HTC has released kernel source code for One X. The kernel source code is available for many network carriers as well as regions. Networks include T-Mobile, Vodafone, Orange etc to name a few. It should be noted that the AT&T HTC One X Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich kernel source code is not available just yet.
Recently it was reported that HTC’s official Bootloader Unlock tool does not work with AT&T HTC One X. The company responded in a statement saying that restrictions of certain devices don’t allow them to participate in the bootloader unlocking program. Restrictions don’t mean that the AT&T HTC One X has some kind of a hardware anomaly, it’s highly likely that AT&T does not want it’s device to be a part of bootloader unlocking program.
Nevertheless if you have a HTC One X on a network other than AT&T in any other region, go and get the Ice Cream Sandwich kernel source code from HTC Developer Center.
