Jason, Roy… and three cameras
Taken for Active Assignment Weekly: Reflections
I was setting up this incredibly gorgeous shot of the sweeping curves of the museum reflected in the huge parking garage mirror when these goons got in my way. Turns out, friends are more fun than architecture, and this was the adorable result of us goofing off at the end of a fun night photography trip.
WIT: Two fellow photographers (Jason and Roy) three tripods, two remote controls, and one big mirror! My camera, the one taking this photo, is on the right. Jason likely has a nearly identical photo, as my remote often triggered his camera as well as my own.
Lightened the photo a bit so you could see more of Jason’s face, and cropped to remove a bright light on the left. Although you can’t really confirm the colour in the dark, I’m going to claim that Jason’s red hair totally met the dare for this week’s assignment.

La vie en bleu
A double exposure with the Frankenstein pinhole Camera of the Ukraine Hotel, and a bizarre piece of sculpture nearby. And no- I haven’t altered the colours. It’s all down to pinhole optics and long exposure chemistry with a bit of redscale thrown in.

A lot of videographers have been looking forward to the release of the Panasonic GH2, especially as the hacked GH1 proved to be such a hit. Although, with it being tougher to crack, how does the standard GH2 compare to a camera like the 60D? Panasonic GH2 body only: www.digitalrev.com Canon 60D body only: www.digitalrev.com

frozen-stiff-me photographing my moonlit silhouette on the snowcovered ground at an outside temperature of appoximately -10° Celsius to unshakily hold the exposure-time of one whole second.
The arctic weather from Sibiria had the outside temperature in central Europe drop down to below -20° Celsius during the night. My own digital thermometer at the window showed a mimimum-record of -15.3° during 26th/27th January 2010.
Februar 2010. Die höchste Schneedecke wurde am 12. Februar mit 29 Zentimetern gemessen. Die tiefste Temperatur wurde am 26. Januar mit Minus 17,1 Grad Celsius abgelesen. Berliner Woche Seite 2, Lokalausgabe Marzahn, Kalenderwoche 13, Mi. 31.März 2010 21.Jahrgang

In Smartphone Era, Point-and-Shoots Stay Home NewYorkTimes
The point-and-shoot camera, which has been a part of American households since 1900, when George Eastman introduced the Kodak Brownie, is endangered. Like other single-use devices — the answering machine, the desktop calculator, the Rolodex — it is being shoved aside by a multipurpose device: the smartphone and its camera, which takes better snapshots with each new model.
… “The compact camera market is pretty stagnant,” said Christopher Chute, an analyst at the market researcher IDC. “The ubiquity of a 5- or 10-megapixel camera phone in your pocket is hard to overcome.”

"A photo taken but not shared might just as well have never been taken."
Tech note: Shot wide-open at f/2.8 to get some background blur and put focus on the subject, in this case Cheryl in the front, with Jerry intentionally blurred a bit. Always try to focus on the person’s eyes.
“You’ll shoot your eye off”
…need I say more?
The title is from my dad, mocking me going outside and taking tons of pictures a few hours after I got it, obviously taken from A Christmas Story "You’ll shoot your eye out, kid!" :-p
There are notes
I also got a full size tripod, but couldn’t fit that in the picture, as well as a soft carrying case for my camera, but it’s not really in the picture- just in the far corner.
Santa freaking rocks! :-p

Nikon FM2(n), the trademark view
I thought that I’d try out some of this lighting stuff on other things.
Kind of gave myself a pretend assignment, as in, shooting this camera for an ad.
Strobist info: SB 600 shot through an umbrella from the mid-high left, light bounced on the right with a piece of white foamcore. The reflector was tight in to the right side, just out of the frame. Triggered with CLS.
