Rockmelt has made a version of its social networking-based web browser available to the iPhone. It offers a different 'browsing' experience by allowing users to sign into both their Facebook and Twitter accounts, which are then integrated into the browser itself. The browser will alert users when Facebook/Twitter contacts post updates and can be used to view Facebook photos and friends' walls. Rockmelt users can also see their Twitter stream, as well as mentions and @replies. It allows for direct sharing from the browser to Facebook/Twitter as well as the ability to save links and other content for viewing later. This function syncs with the desktop version of Rockmelt, as will bookmarks, and unread item counts. Changes made to the Rockmelt browser's settings on the iPhone will be automatically synced and reflected by the desktop version (and vice versa). The Rockmelt browser is free to download.

Samsung Droid Charge Streets April 28 for $299
Verizon Wireless today announced that the Samsung Droid Charge, its previously unnamed Long Term Evolution-equipped Android smartphone, will go on sale starting April 28 for $299.99 with contract. The Droid Charge, first revealed in January, has a 4.3-inch super AMOLED display, 8 megapixel main camera, 1.3 megapixel camera user-facing camera, 1GHz processor and runs Android 2.2 Froyo. It can share Wi-Fi with up to 10 devices when connected to LTE, and up to five devices when connected to 3G.

Google Found Guilty in Android / Linux Patent Case
Google has been found guilty of patent infringement by a jury in Texas over use of the Linux kernel in its servers and Android smartphones. A firm called Bedrock Computer Technologies file the lawsuit, and won a $5 million fine from Google. Aside from the fine, the implications for Android down the line aren't clear. 'The implication here is really that there is a huge number of Linux users who will be required to pay royalties if this patent holder knocks on their doors in the US. This is definitely a major impediment to the growth of Linux and makes companies, including Google, that rely on open source code particularly vulnerable to patent threats,'said intellectual property activist Florian Mueller to the BBC News. Google, however, defended itself and said it will continue to do so as patent claims arise. In a statement, it said, 'The recent explosion in patent litigation is turning the world's information highway into a toll road, forcing companies to spend millions and millions of dollars defending old, questionable patent claims and wasting resources that would be much better spent investing in new technologies for users and creating jobs.'
