White Light 1

I am sure many of you would like to use the camera LED flash on your Windows Phone as a temporary flashlight, now there is an app in the Windows Phone Marketplace that allows users to do just that. Say hello to White Light by davepermen. You can use the app to run you screen white which is ok but if your device has a LED flash it will automatically swirch that on when the app is active ( even when its in the background ) which is amazing coz the flash gives out a better light than a simple white screen. You can toggle the screen color from black / white with a simple touch this has no effect on the LED flashlight.

HTC: Rhyme a better upgrade phone than iPhone

If you're looking to upgrade to a smartphone from a basic handset, HTC executive Jason Mackenzie says he believes the Rhyme offers a better option than Apple's iPhone.

"For a feature phone customer, we think this is a better product than the iPhone," Mackenzie said in an interview with CNET. HTC's global marketing chief was in New York on Tuesday for the unveiling of the Rhyme for Verizon Wireless, a "plum" smartphone with feminine sensibilities--not that HTC or Verizon would easily cop to that fact.

Mackenzie's claim is a bold one, but one in line with a company that itself has gotten bolder in the smartphone arena. Over the past few years, HTC has made a name for itself with its unique take on the Android smartphone and a concerted effort to get its own name out in the market, rather than relying on carrier partners for marketing support.

That higher profile has come with bigger problems. HTC is embroiled in a massive legal battle with Apple over the alleged violation of patents on both sides, a conflict that has drawn in Google's direct support through the transfer of ... [Read more]

Acer Iconia Tab A501 coming to AT&T very soon

Acer Iconia Tab A501 coming to AT&T very soon:

(Credit:
Bonnie Cha/CNET)

AT&T will begin begin selling the Acer Iconia Tab A501 on September 18, the carrier announced today.

The tablet comes with Honeycomb 3.0 and will run on AT&T's HSPA+ network. That's about the only difference between it and the Iconia Tab A500 released a few months back, as the tablet's form factor will be identical.

AT&T will begin selling the tablet this Sunday at its retail stores, as well as online.

The no-contract price for the tablet is $480, with the two-year contract price being set at $330, but it also includes a $35-per-month 3GB data plan. Thankfully, AT&T will offer monthly billing plans as well.

The postpaid plan is $14.99 for 250MB or $25 for 2GB. Customers on the 2GB plan who exceed their monthly data limit will be charged $10 per 1GB of overage. Customers on the 250MB plan who exceed their limit will be charged $14.99 per 250MB of overage.

Prepaid customers' plans will look quite similar, but different in one key area. They'll still pay the same prices for 250MB and 2GB; however, without overage charges. Customers on the 2GB plan who exceed the limit have the option of choosing an additional 2GB for $25.

(Credit:
Sony)

Sony has unveiled the official details of the first touch-screen Android Walkman, with a Japanese release date of December 10 in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB capacities.

The Walkman Z series comes with a 1GHz dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, 512MB of RAM, and Android 2.3, all displayed through an enormous 4.3-inch LCD screen (480x800), according to a Sony Japan Web site (Google Translate.) Black, red, and a special Sony Store limited violet edition will float around various territories.

CNET's Stephen Shankland already provided much of this information during an exclusive reveal of the Android Walkman last month at IFA 2011.

Sony has certainly come a long way from the cassette Walkman of yesteryear.

Hardware features are impressive for a nonphone (such as mini-HDMI, DLNA, WM-Port/Mini-USB), but it is important to note the device only has Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1 wireless capabilities. GPS and a gyroscope is also built-in to make th... [Read more]

Fusion Garage Grid tablet selling for $299

Fusion Garage Grid tablet selling for $299:

Fusion Garage's new Grid 10 tablet

(Credit:
Fusion Garage)

Fusion Garage's new Grid 10 tablet is selling for a healthy $200 below its originally announced price.

Available for sale in the United States and scheduled to start shipping this past Monday, the Grid 10 is being served up in two versions--a 16GB Wi-Fi-only version for $299 and a 16GB Wi-Fi + 3G edition for $399. Those numbers compare with the previously announced prices of $499 and $599, respectively. Shipping is free.

A spokewoman for Fusion Garage told CNET that the company was able to lower the price after negotiating its supply chain costs with a manufacturing partner. Customers who already ordered the tablet following its official August 15 launch date will be compensated for the price difference.

Beyond the U.S., buyers in the U.K. can preorder the Grid 10, but it won't actually ship for them until October 24. The tablet will also start launching for other countries in Europe this week and next.

However, U.S. customers are now looking at a delay as well.

On Monday, Fusion Garage CEO Chandra Rathakrishnan revealed that the new tablet won't actually start shipping until October 1. Rathakrishnan attributed the delay to a revision... [Read more]
