"Thumbs Up Grip for the GF1
by theflyer
i'm not sure if anyone's reviewed a Thumbs Up grip on the GF1 before or not but....long story short, I walked into the local Leica dealer yesterday, slid one of these beauties into the hot shoe and....voila. :2thumbs:

now i know lots of folks with the GF1 love it's compact form factor and would never think of adding to what is arguably a perfect combination of size and performance. however, for ME and the way i'm used to shooting pictures (having come from the DSLR world and being accustomed to having a chunk of camera under my hands!), i've often felt the need for a different way to hold the GF1. my fingers, while not big, never seem comfortable with the machined indentations on the body and i always feel like i'm 'pinching' a deck of cards when using the GF1, especially as i don't use the LV1 and am limited to holding the camera in front of me while framing with the LCD.

i've tried a few different straps - especially ones that allow me to tighten them around my wrist to give me a more 'secure' feel - and i also looked into the GF1 grip out of japan that screws into the tripod mount (which i was actually about to buy)."

"FS: Fujifilm/Tenba & RoadWired Camera Cases
by deirdre
First: We have a cat, but she rarely spends time in the place where these items were stored. No smokers in the house. This house is dustier than average, though. Prices include shipping in the US and Canada; ask about other countries. PayPal preferred.

1. RoadWired yellow camera case. These are no longer made; I rarely carried it, so it's in good shape (except for some dust as the box I stored it in had the lid off in one corner). Will hold a mirrorless camera (like a Sony NEX or Panasonic GF1) or a traditional film camera like a Leica M body (not included!) or smaller film SLRs. I used this for storing my camera gear for many years; it has a surprisingly large number of nooks, crannies, elastic bands and so on. List price was around $55; selling used for $20. Can be used with included strap or slid onto your belt.

2. Fujifilm backpack made by Tenba based on their P261 model. This is a small, lightweight camera backpack. It holds an SLR with a zoom (80-200) and two smaller lenses plus a flash. I got this as a part of a trade, and I had just purchased a different, larger, backpack. Original price on this was $65; asking price is $25."

"FS: Panasonic 14-140mm 1:4-5.8 (UK)
by MartinCRC
For sale one Panasonic 14-140mm 1:4-5.8 lens in excellent, lightly used condition with unmarked, and unpolished glass. The lens came with a GH2 kit purchased in December and so is unboxed but comes with an unused pouch, caps and lens hood.

I am looking for £395 delivered in the UK but would consider Europe at additional cost to cover Airsure. Happy to accept PayPal and will cover the fees but if you want to pay by PP gift then we can knock £15 off.

Thanks for looking

Martin"

"Sharp adapted price/performance lenses
by JoelSutherland
I'm looking to get an adapted lens. I currently own the 20/1.7 and a Hexanon 57/1.4.

I would like to get something with a focal length in between the two.

This lens will be used almost exclusively outdoors and my only interest is sharpness -- I don't really care how far open it goes.

What lenses should I be considering?"

other than the increase in AF what are the advantages of the new kit lens over the old on the EPL-1? I have heard the new lens has a better build quality, etc. I am more interested in the image quality differences.

by pdh
Following the removal of one of my posts from the 'Graffiti' thread, without prior consultation, by the 'Super Moderator' Alan Roseman, I no longer feel I wish to take part in this forum.

I've found this site very supportive and welcoming until now, I've learned a lot (a LOT) about cameras, :43:, and taking photographs. I've also learned how friendly an online community can be.

I will keep my PAD going in the Blogs section for the time being, until I decide whether it want to move it elsewhere.

With all good wishes to everybody,

"Do I need a macro Elmarit 60/2.8?
by apicius9
Hi,

I have an Elmarit with the 1:1 tube that I have only played around with for a bit, but clearly under-used it. I also have a Vivitar S1 105/2.8 1:1 macro for longer reach and plenty of 50-60mm lenses to cover the general range.

Now I am wondering: Compared to other shorter 50-60mm macro lenses, is the Elmarit worth keeping? Is it so much better than, say, a Canon FD 50/3.5 or one of the Nikkors? Since macro is neither my main interest nor do I use it enough, I am wondering whether I would be better off selling it and using the money toward the 100-300 Panny which is the last lens on my buying list for now. With the going prices right now, I may even get a 50/3.5 from a reputable brand on top of the zoom for the price of the Elmarit.

Does enybody else have it and compared it to other mcro lenses? I have a hard time letting lenses go, more so if they have a Leica sign on them (I grew up near the plant and many of my family worked there).

Thanks,

Stefan"

"Fun at Wrigley Field
by jbuch84
Just recently went to see a Cubs game in Wrigley Field and took along my GF2 with the 14mm lens and the 45-200mm lens. Was a fun game, even though I'm a Cardinals fan :-) Below are some pictures I took, just a few for now since i just got home and need to sleep..but plan to post more soon. I think the gf2 and 45-200mm did just fine in the overcast conditions!

"For Sale: 12mm Heliar + film camera
by John Jarosz
Hello.
I bought this lens about 10 months ago. It came with a 35mm film camera and viewfinder. it is a very nice lens. The short focal length means you can use it as a fixed focus lens because there is so much depth of field. It's very small on the camera, very good for street photography. It's actually good for almost any use you want to put it to. The camera and viewfinder came with it, so I won't break it up. Why am I selling it? Well, I'd like something wider, so I'm considering the Panasonic 7-14mm. I need to sell this lens to finance the 7-14. I really don't want to because it is a very nice lens for my Pen, but when I get the 7-14 this lens won't get any use.

$550 for the 12mm Heliar, Camera, viewfinder plus a m43 adapter. Plus shipping
I'd prefer a check. Send me your location so I can figure out shipping. US sale only - sorry I can't do any foreign sales.

Thanks

John

"THE IMPORTANT PART: IT WORKS PERFECTLY, Sensor is clean, no empty pixels.

This camera has been HACKED to provide superior video quality. Serial # is WE0A....
The hack settings are: in AVCHD mode up to 40Mbps, native 24p. These cameras are becoming hard to find- if you want superb video quality for a reasonable price, go for it! (This hack does not change the already fine still picture quality.)

On the other hand, if you don't want the hack, it can can be reversed, and you still have an excellent still camera and a fine video camera."

"Sold: Panasonic GH1-hackable/hacked
by pana-animalartist
I bought this camera just about a year ago from Amazon. Just upgraded to GH2, so this one will have to go. This for the body only, with all the original wires, books, charger, TWO genuine Panasonic batteries, CD, strap, box- everything that came with the camera except the lens. It is in good cosmetic condition, with a little wear on the bottom right corner, a few minor scratches on the LCD on the edge-( no effect on viewing quality.) Lug nuts wiggle a tiny bit- I don't use them, as I've heard that on a very few of these models, they can pull out. (Not every seller will tell you this!) I've NOT had that problem with this camera, but I think it only fair to warn buyers of the possibility for any GH1. I use a Black Rapid strap attached to the tripod mount, and love it. (Black Rapid not included with the camera!)"

"The part I am having trouble with is how to carry my tripod. I have a Gitzo GT2940C compact tripod that I would like to carry with me, but do not want to hold it in my hand all of the time. I was looking at the B&H catalog for a solution and came across the Gitzo GC5210 tripod strap that looked interesting, as I think it would allow me easy access to the tripod while not adding a lot of weight. I can't really tell how it works, but I assume that I would wear it diagonally across my back. The description states that it stays in place when the tripod is in use, so at first glance it seems promising.

I was wondering what others thought of this, or had better suggestions that I should look into. I want to travel as light as possible as I will be walking within the cities as my primary form of transportation. I also want the minimum set-up time so have not explored the various tripod bag options.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions,
Jim"

by Trigeek
Hello All,
Later this month I will be traveling to Paris, Beirut and Istanbul on vacation / work and am looking for some suggestions from some of you more experienced travelers as to how to carry the equipment that I will use. Right now my plan is to carry a Domke F-803 camera satchel for my GH2, 45-200, 14-45 and 20mm Lumix lenses + memory cards, batteries, filters & other odds and ends. The F-803 is great for allowing easy access to lenses and it does not look like a camera bag, which I like."

"Lenses for Alaskan Trip? Lens questions
by fastcar888
Greetings. This is my first post here.

I was a long time Nikon DSLR/SLR and Leica rangefinder photo enthusiast . As with most, I got rid of everything not digital including Leica gear. I wound up with a Nikon D90 a 24mm-70mm zoom and a few other. Eventually, the weight and bulk started to wear on me. So I ventured in the MTF world and was blown away.

After reading about the Pany/Leica 45mm lens here (and seeing the outstanding results), I decided it was a must have lens. I like the 90mm to 105mm range. So I wound up with an Olympus E-PL2 , the 14-42 kit lens and the 45 Pany/Leica. The Pany/Leica lens is remarkable, especially when used with Apples Aperture 3. I am hugely impressed with it. My days with enormously large Nikon DSLR's are over and I am a believer in Micro Four Thirds for my needs."

"GH2 files on a Mac for Dummies...
by nickthetasmaniac
I'm sure this has been asked a million times but I've searched and it's all pretty much gibberish to me :/

I've just got a GH2 and I've never shot video before, at least not with any intent... I have a MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard 10.6.7 and iMovie 8.0.6. Also have CS5 with Premier Pro...

So, what's involved with importing, editing and viewing AVCHD files? iMovie seems happy enough with 720p and 1080i files, but it chucks if you shoot in 24p or Variable Movie Mode... When you try and import is has a bit red cross through the files and won't let you touch them.

Help, please!

Appologies in advance for my technoidiocy :)

Cheers, Nick"
