Toyota Names 500 Finalists in "100 Cars for Good" Program
Now, the fate of the finalists lay in the public's hand. Even you can vote. In fact, we encourage you to. Public voting, in fact, began on May 9 and is scheduled to take place for 100 consecutive days. Each day, five finalist organizations will be profiled on the Toyota Facebook page, allowing the public to vote for the nonprofit they believe is the most deserving.
Toyota will hold up their end of the bargain, awarding one vehicle per day, through August 16, when voting ends. Winning nonprofits will be able to choose from among seven vehicles: the Prius, Tacoma, Highlander Hybrid, Siennaor Sienna Mobility. In addition to a new vehicle, Toyota will also give each '100 Cars for Good' program winners a complimentary six-year 100,000-mile Toyota Vehicle Service Agreement, helping them to keep their new Toyota running like new for a very long time to come.
Speaking on the announcement of the '100 Cars for Good' finalists, Jim Lentz, President, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A, Inc. said, 'Congratulations to the nonprofits selected as '100 Cars for Good' finalists, and to all of those who applied for consideration. We look forward to seeing the public voting and the end results - these vehicles being used to help local communities across the country in the weeks, months, and years to come.'1

Environmentalists Will Dig the New Nissan Micra DIG S
Hybrids have been the new environmentally safe cars to drive these days but what if there was one that wasn't a hybrid that happened to be even more appealing for the environment? Nissan is producing a vehicle with that description. It will be available starting summer 2011. And, its name, the Micra DIG S, suits its micro size and low emissions perfectly.
We at Boardwalk Nissan - 1 Bair Island Road, Redwood City, CA 94063. - applaud Nissan's innovation that proves a car doesn't need to be a hybrid to join the auto industry's current environmental fair. The Nissan Micra DIG S is in fact powered by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder Direct Injection Gasoline-Supercharger engine.
If you're thinking the Nissan Micra DIG S sounds more like a peppy compact rather than an environmentally-friendly car? keep reading. This out-of-the-box design offers the best of both worlds. The car delivers 98 horsepower (hp), 142 Nm, and a top speed of 112 mph when coupled with a manual gearbox. As far as CO2 emissions are concerned, it emits only 95 g/.62 mi. with a manual transmission (115 g/.62 mi. with a CVT).
'We have been able to achieve this ultra-low CO2 figure in a cost-effective package and without the complication of particulate filters needed to clean up diesel engine emissions and which are not entirely compatible with a car that spends much of its life in the city,' says Pierre Liong, Vice President Product Strategy and Planning, Nissan International SA. '?Ultra-low emissions with no compromise when it comes to drivability means the Micra DIG S sets new standards for the current generation of city cars. No other petrol-powered compact hatchback can beat its overall efficiency?and it is more than a match for an equivalent diesel.'
"Nissan Versa SL Makes Forbes' "10 Most Value-Packed Cars" List
It's no secret, that's gas prices have begun to skyrocket recently leading to a new way for car buyers to shop for new vehicles. The impact is so widespread that it can almost be called a general status quo. It's beginning to be well known that most car buyer's main criteria for a new car is that it be trustworthy in the long-term. And so, we thought you'd like to know that according to Forbes.com, which recently named the Nissan Versa Number Two on their '10 Most Value-Packed Cars' List, '...Compacts are some of the safest bets when it comes to getting value for your money.'
What makes the Nissan Versa's placement on Forbes' '10 Most Value-Packed Cars' list so impressive is the fact that it had to compete with over 100 other vehicles. First, Forbes.com compiled a list of vehicles that earned an 'Excellent' rating from Vincentric (a firm dedicated to applying automotive value). Forbes.com then ranked the eligible vehicles based on a number of criteria impacting overall ownership cost. These include: depreciation, taxes and fees, fuel costs, insurance interest, maintenance, opportunity costs, and repairs - all over a period of five years.
You get the picture: a lot of number crunching and spreadsheet analysis. But, when all was said and done, the autos with the lowest calculated total cost of ownership (i.e., the Nissan Versa) earned a place on Forbe's '10 Most Value-Packed Cars' list.

"New 370Z GT Edition Debuts in Geneva
Nissan's new 370Z GT, created in honor of the Japanese automaker's huge success in GT racing across the world, recently debuted at the International Geneva Motor Show. However, it was largely passed by, thanks to the futuristic glory of the Nissan ESFLOW. While it might not be quite as fantastic; it's still a very cool car... a bit of soul food for the racing spirit, if you will.
The new 370Z GT Edition gains many welcome additions. One thing,
however, remains the same. It keeps the fierce V6 engine we've come to
know and love over the years. So, What are the ingredients that make the new 370Z GT Edition so satisfying?
- Special racing strips
- Standard 19' RAYS forged alloy wheels finished in a dramatic Anthracite color
- 3 Exclusive body colors: Metallic Black, Pearl White, and Black Rose
- Significant improvements to suspension and equipment, including a retuning of dampeners to provide the ultimate balance between a smooth, comfortable ride and high-speed handling
Speaking on the special edition, Pierre Long, Vice President, Nissan International SA said, 'The 370Z is an iconic sports car and the GT Edition underlines its appeal to enthusiasts everywhere. The combination of outstanding performance and the dramatic looks of this very special 370Z more than lives up to the heritage of its illustrious forebear while its strong links to the race tracks show its true pedigree.'1
Like any special edition, the Nissan 370Z GT Edition will be produced in limited numbers. As of now, official pricing hasn't been released. But, you can expect it to go for at least a few grand more than the standard 370Z model, which currently starts at $30,610. Standard equipment in the new GT Edition will include: a rear parking camera, a tire-pressure monitoring system, and Nissan Premium Connect satellite navigation option.
If you're interested in learning more about the forthcoming Nissan 370 GT Edition, contact Boardwalk Nissan. Located at 1 Bair Island Road in Redwood City, California, we're happy to share complete specs.

"Nissan Launches New Quest Minivan
car buyer. Nissan is trying to change this perception with the launch of their
all new 2011 Quest minivan this month, which hopes to break away from the
'dull' tradition of other minivan makes. The Quest, with its redesigned angular
body and front end, makes its TV debut with a 30-second commercial - 'Errands.'
The ad focuses on how the van makes a parents' life easier.
'As the new campaign demonstrates, Quest is about to tackle the toughest job on
the planet: parenting,' says Jon Brancheau, vice president, Nissan Marketing.
Other than its new styling, the Quest also brings a new
climate-control system to the market that the company says is designed to
'detect and block outside odors while helping to reduce unwanted odors inside.'
This feature, if it can really tone down the smells one often encounters in a
minivan, could become the Quest's biggest selling point.
Prices range for the updated Nissan Quest is $27,750 for the base S model to $41,350 for
the more luxurious LE.

Nissan Assures Car Buyers Its Products are Safe from Radioactivity
As fear mounts over possible radioactive contamination from Japan's severely compromised Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant, automakers have been trying to reassure car buyers that their vehicles will remain unaffected. The most common assurance offered is that autos are manufactured far enough away from the facility that fallout won't end up on their vehicles.
Nissan, however, is offering consumers more than just words. As an added step to ensure safety, the Japanese automaker will reportedly be performing a radiation inspection on all vehicles produced in Japan, before they are exported to other countries. And they will continue to do so until any possible threat of contamination has subsided.
Such inspections may seem futile in light of The Japanese Automobile Manufacturers Association announcement that no harmful levels of radiation have been detected in any vehicles destined for export. However, we at Boardwalk Nissan fully appreciate their better-safe-than-sorry approach.
Nissan reports that its current supply of vehicles in the U.S. stands at 50-days worth of cars, trucks, and SUVs. Long-term delivery schedules, however, still cannot be guaranteed. As of March 18, Nissan was able to commit to a normal schedule for only seven days. That's as long as officials could be certain they will have enough parts.
Stay tuned for more news on Nissans efforts and supply levels in the aftermath of the quake-tsunami disaster, coming soon. Boardwalk Nissan, located at1 Bair Island Road in Redwood City, California, is dedicated to keeping you informed.

"Versa Still Comes in Under 10K
If you've been on a car lot within the past few years, you know that cars available for under $10,000 are unfortunately going the way of dinosaurs. The Nissan Versa SMT, the most barebones trim of the Versa model, actually starts at $9,990 (not including shipping charges). It has, in fact, been the least expensive four-door sedan sold in the U.S. since it rolled out in 2009.
If you don't need a car that will pamper you, but serves more as a pure mode of transportation, it's definitely a viable choice. And, you can't deny, the price is nice. But, be forewarned, it might not stay below 10K for long.
Nissan hasn't officially released 2012 Versa prices at this time. There has, however, been a great deal of speculation that the Japanese automaker will finally raise the price above $10,000. If Nissan doesn't raise the price of the Versa with its 2012 model-year release, they likely will shortly thereafter. So, if you're a serious spendthrift, you're going to want to jump sooner rather than later.
2011 Nissan Versa At a Glance
- 4 Trims Available: 1.6 Base, 1.6, 1.8 S, 1.8 SL
- 2 Models Available: Sedan and Hatch (available in 1.8 S and 1.8 SL only)
- Standard Engine: 1.6-liter 107 horsepower(hp) I4 (1.6 Base and 1.6); 1.8-liter 122-hp I4 (1.8 S Sedan, 1.8 S Hatch, 1.8 SL Sedan)
- Transmission: 5-speed manual overdrive (1.6 Base and 1.6); 6-speed manual overdrive (1.8 S Sedan, 1.8 S Hatch, 1.8 SL Sedan)
- Fuel Economy (mpg city/highway): 26/34 (1.6 Base and 1.6); 26/31 (1.8 S Sedan, 1.8 S Hatch, 1.8 SL Sedan)
- Powertrain Warranty: 60,000 mi./60 mo.

"Nissan Does the Right Thing
Nissan just recently promised $115,000 in relief aid to the American Red Cross to help them provide food, clothing, and shelter for storm victims in the southeastern U.S. Now, they're stepping up to the plate again. Only this time around the Japanese automaker is offering employee pricing and delayed finance payments to consumers who lost, or sustained damage to, their vehicle due to the devastating storms, floods, and tornadoes that have destroyed many towns and cities across America's southeastern region.
In extending their exclusive employee pricing program to drivers in need, Nissan is essentially offering storm victims $1,500 off the dealer invoice, plus any other incentives that may apply. The second part of the program, the Payment Delay Plan, allows eligible customers to delay three payments without incurring any penalty fees.
"Because of Nissan's strong presence in the southeastern U.S., we've seen close-up the impact of recent devastating weather, which has left many area residents without personal transportation," says Brian Carolin, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing NNA, speaking on Nissan's extension of its internal financing program. "We want to do our part to assist our neighbors, and are offering employee pricing to disaster victims as one way to help them return to normal."1
To be eligible for the program, drivers must live in the states of Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi, Arkansas or Kentucky, within a county listed on the FEMA website (www.fema.gove/news/disasters.fema). Nissan buyers interested in taking advantage of the plan will be required to show proof of damage.

"Nissan North America Goes Transparent
To make the used-car buying process more comfortable for Nissan shoppers, Nissan North America is going transparent. Specifically, the Japanese automaker will begin sharing information related to open safety and emissions recalls for Nissan and Infiniti vehicles with Carfax (one of the most widely used companies specializing in vehicle history reports). The advantage of Nissan's recently announced transparency is it will grant consumers access to critical safety and recall information on their accessible third-party website. Plus, used-Nissan and used-Infiniti buyers interested in using Carfax to view this pertinent information will not have to pay any fees. It will be free via the Nissan and Infiniti Vehicle History reports available at recall.carfax.com.
'We strive to have recall campaign work completed in a timely fashion,' said John Spoon, Vice President, Parts and Service, Nissan North America. 'By working with Carfax, we are making it easier for customers to determine if a vehicle has an open campaign and encouraging campaign service completion.'1
Elaborating on Spoon's words, Larry Gamache, Communications Director, Carfax said, 'Carfax and Nissan North America are committed to keeping our roads safe. Adding Nissan and Infiniti to the list of manufacturers providing open recall campaign information to Carfax helps notify car owners and buyers and get these cars into dealerships to be fixed.'2

"Morning Meanderings…. live from CHICAGO! (and this is not a life blog)
Mornin’!
First of all let me say…. this is not a life blog.
Although….
it does seem like it recently….
Hmmm…..
Ok… lately I will admit it may be one.
“Where are the book reviews Sheila?”
I am reading…. I just have been flying through the days from morning to night lately and quite literally have had no time to write reviews. I plan on it, every day… then… I just do not get in to the house on time.
Currently I am in Chicago with my “life sisters”, Heidi, Sara, and Cindy. What is a life sister? Sisters I chose. Girls who are as close to me as sisters.
Oh… and the dork meter is set on high today so let’s have a little music shall we…
Heidi I met 20 years ago at Wal-Mart. We were Customer Service Managers together. Cindy came to work at Wal-Mart 16 years ago, and Sara I hired in the Housewares Department 13 years ago. We are a motley crue, but we try to do something once a month, many times just dinner to keep in touch.
Ok… back to Chicago. Yesterday was highly busy – we drove into Chicago at 9 am and spent the entire day (and evening) on the Navy Pier. We were on a Pirate ship, went to the top of the Sears Building, took the water taxi, seen the Buckingham Fountain…. had my first Chicago hot dog….
We pulled into out hotel at 9 pm and then, after we were settled in.. went out to dinner. Back at midnight…
And now we are off again.
I guess temporarily this is a life blog. Books are coming… they are … I promise. I have things to say

BEA – That’s a Wrap – The Final Post of BEA 2011
So as you can see – I have been busy posting posting posting about BEA.
Moving forward for this week I think the biggest thing I want to tell you is that Thursday is my 2 year Blogiversary. If you attended last year, you know I go all out – as you the readers are what makes me want to share bookish stories and reviews. If you want to see what was given away and what fun happened here (of the comments are as fun as the post) check it out here. And know that this year will be more of the same – big giveaways, and hopefully a lot of fun comments from the party attendees and you are all invited!!!
Other than the blogiversary – it is also Audio Book week! I have many audio reviews and audio related posts lined up for this week, and even if you are not a fan of audio I am going to ask that you check out what I am posting, you just never know .
Mary Beth Latham is a happily married woman entirely devoted to her three teenaged children. When her talented daughter Ruby casually announces she’s breaking up with her boyfriend Kirenan, a former neighbor who’s become like family, Mary Beth is slightly alarmed, but soon distracted by her son Max, who’s feeling overshadowed by his extroverted, athletic twin brother Alex. Quindlen’s novel moves briskly, propelled by the small dramas of summer camp, proms, soccer games and neighbors, until the rejected Kirenan blindsides the Lathams, and the reader, with an incredible act of violence. Left with almost nothing, Mary Beth struggles to cope with loss and guilt, protect what she has left, and regain a sense of meaning.
I had this one at reserve at the library and have already started listening to it.
With her older sister, Emma, planning a wedding and her younger sister, Sophie, preparing to launch a career on the London stage, Lulu can’t help but feel like the failure of the Atwater family. Lulu loves her sisters dearly and wants nothing but the best for them, but she finds herself stuck in a rut, working dead-end jobs with no romantic prospects in sight. When her mother asks her to find a cache of old family recipes in the attic of her childhood home, Lulu stumbles across a collection of letters written by her great-great-grandmother Josephine March. In her letters, Jo writes in detail about every aspect of her life: her older sister, Meg’s, new home and family; her younger sister Amy’s many admirers; Beth’s illness and the family’s shared grief over losing her too soon; and the butterflies she feels when she meets a handsome young German. As Lulu delves deeper into the lives and secrets of the March sisters, she finds solace and guidance, but can the words of her great-great-grandmother help Lulu find a place for herself in a world so different from the one Jo knew?
I was soooo excited to pick this up at BEA!
I don’t know a lot about this one and Amazon did not have a good description. I picked it up at BEA from my good friends at Blackstone audio and thought I should really give it a try for audio week.
I think that is about as much as I will get done this week unless I get into more audio. I have a bike ride this coming weekend – a 150 mile for MS and I will be leaving Friday for the cities for that ride which will take place on Saturday and Sunday – 75 miles each day. HOPING for good weather
In the mean time – I am UBER excited to see what you are all reading as we enter into June. Please add your link to your Monday What Are You Reading post below where it says “click here”.
Have an awesome week!

Morning Meanderings…. Day Two and a Taste Of Chicago!
Good morning!
Another long and fun day in Chicago yesterday. We spent most of the day on the Chicago Trolley which was well worth the money. For $35 you can use this for three days to hop on and off and see the sights. There is also coupons in the booklet that comes with it so for sure we picked up our free candy bar at the Hershey store, popcorn, and most importantly priority seating Gino’s Pizza! We were in line – with a 20 minute wait and then walaa! With our Trolley passes we were seated right away.
We had to have the “pizza” experience in Chicago and this is where we were told to have it.
Needless to say after our Gino’s lunch we did not have supper. Wow. That’s a lot of pizza. Beth Fish Reads hosts a weekend cooking meme on weekends and while I am not cooking, I am enjoying good food.
We continued our tour seeing movie sights, famous buildings, Harpo Studios, Hard Rock Hotel, the Face Fountain (SO COOL!)
and finally – The Bean…
We came back to the hotel tired and happy. Today we are doing one more swing through Chicago and then we are heading back towards home so the drive is not so long tomorrow. We are thinking of a mall spot in Wisconsin, something about a Fonzie statue, staying over night and then back to Brainerd Minnesota tomorrow.
