Taken for Active Assignment Weekly: Reflections
I was setting up this incredibly gorgeous shot of the sweeping curves of the museum reflected in the huge parking garage mirror when these goons got in my way. 
Turns out, friends are more fun than architecture, and this was the adorable result of us goofing off at the end of a fun night photography trip.
WIT: Two fellow photographers (Jason and Roy) three tripods, two remote controls, and one big mirror! My camera, the one taking this photo, is on the right. Jason likely has a nearly identical photo, as my remote often triggered his camera as well as my own.
Lightened the photo a bit so you could see more of Jason’s face, and cropped to remove a bright light on the left. Although you can’t really confirm the colour in the dark, I’m going to claim that Jason’s red hair totally met the dare for this week’s assignment.

A double exposure with the Frankenstein pinhole Camera of the Ukraine Hotel, and a bizarre piece of sculpture nearby. And no- I haven’t altered the colours. It’s all down to pinhole optics and long exposure chemistry with a bit of redscale thrown in.

frozen-stiff-me photographing my moonlit silhouette on the snowcovered ground at an outside temperature of appoximately -10° Celsius to unshakily hold the exposure-time of one whole second.
The arctic weather from Sibiria had the outside temperature in central Europe drop down to below -20° Celsius during the night. My own digital thermometer at the window showed a mimimum-record of -15.3° during 26th/27th January 2010.

The point-and-shoot camera, which has been a part of American households since 1900, when George Eastman introduced the Kodak Brownie, is endangered. Like other single-use devices — the answering machine, the desktop calculator, the Rolodex — it is being shoved aside by a multipurpose device: the smartphone and its camera, which takes better snapshots with each new model.

I thought that I’d try out some of this lighting stuff on other things.
Kind of gave myself a pretend assignment, as in, shooting this camera for an ad.
Strobist info: SB 600 shot through an umbrella from the mid-high left, light bounced on the right with a piece of white foamcore. The reflector was tight in to the right side, just out of the frame. Triggered with CLS.

Took the camera to Best Buy to try out some tripods and this is what you get.

Nikon F4 with Konica Minolta Centuria 100 negative film. Scanned with my Konica Minolta Scan Dual IV film scanner which has no ICE.
This was from an American Muscle car meet here in Doha. I took the same thing with the same lens from the same tripod position with the D80. It makes for an interesting contrast. See here:

The most obvious things are the 1.5x crop factor makes the D80 image look closer. Also, the negative film somehow got something like a full spectrum of colour out of that nasty sodium vapour light and I was able to get something approaching the real colour of the car. On the D80 there was no playing with curves or white balances that would have gotten me this.
The picture is also a bit soft because I put a lot of noise reduction on for the nasty level of graininess my scanner was giving me.

Nikon F4 with Fuji 100 negative film. This is the cheap stuff they give you free at the lab if you get prints with your processing. The base material is quite thin and prone to curl making it hard to work with (processing, scanning) but the results are decent. Nikkor 180mm f2.8 AF-ED lens.
These are some scenes from the a wasteland near Wakra. I parked on the side of the road. I thought the car looked cool standing there.

My old tripod is seeing the wear and tear of everyday use. The ball head was also starting to slip. It was a cheaper tripod and served its purpose, but considering how often I use a tripod I thought it was time for an upgrade. This one is really kind of cool. The center shaft comes off and can be mounted like you see in the picture. I can think of a few times this would have come in handy in the past.

Glad it didn’t rain last Friday. I love getting Thai chicken every year at this fair. Followed with hot apple pie with ice cream but gosh – we tried looking for it and they didn’t have it here this year! Darn…. That’s all I care about is "food".
Well, came to the ride section and there was a bunch of young kids or should I say young crazy wild kids! And sometimes fair people kinda creep me out. They’re a little weird. They wouldn’t leave you alone.
Anyways, love my ’10 Subie Forester! Just picked it up today. Sweet! A little paranoid to drive it. Afraid that someone might hit me or something might happen to my car. Well, I’m ready for snow now! Winter in New England here I come! Bring it on!!! Lol. Just felt like saying that.

If you want to gauge the size of the crowd at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, you look to the hillside and check out parking lot. And while we are just halfway through the first day of Porsche Rennsport IV, it’s filling up. Estimates are that some 65,000-75,000 Porsche fans will be at the track over the three-day event, rivaling crowds for the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.
The paddock is literally jammed. What Porsche would you like to see next? A 917? A 914/6? The famous Moby Dick 911? A racing Speedster? A Porsche GT3 Cup car? Just stand in one place and do a slow 360…you’ll see them all.
Practice has already begun and you can gauge what’s out there…the early fours with a growly sort of buzz, the big boomer 917s…well booming.
