airport refuses to cooperate with router (iMac 10.5.8)
This is not a router issue except for the fact that the airport will not cooperate with the router. I know it is not a router issue because 1) I already brought the iMac upstairs and connected directly to the router through Ethernet 2) this happened three days ago as it has happened previously 3) I'm able to connect via iPhone to our wireless network just fine.
Basically, I know the problem. The airport (card?) will not find the wifi signal and provide my iMac with the proper DHCP setting to give me an IP address.
What is weird is that in my attempts to "fix" this problem, it seems the Airport can actually SEE our network (we call it cainbollen) as when it searches for networks after I re-add Airport, it's able to give me this network as an option to list it for an Airport connection.
Here's what I have attempted so far:
-reset the pram
-delete Airport under the Network option (leaving Ethernet and Bluetooth) and re-add Airport as a connection
-renew DHCP settings manually by providing the appropriate IPs and router (this is also how I know airport is "reading" our network; if I give a number in use it tells me)
-renew DHCP automatically
-powercycled the router (Belkin) and modem (comcast) and iMac (even though I know it's not a powercycle possibility)
-gone into the system library and deleted the appropriate files and rebooted
-deleted and re-added our network as a listing related to DHCP and network settings
I really don't know what else to do.
It's maddening---each time this has happened it us usually a " wait it out " attitude. Meaning that say if I went to bed, the connection is fine in the morning. Last time was three days ago and it took several hours. Now it's been more than a day. I was online fine last night at about 6 pm; 11 pm and nothing.
I've heard maybe static electricity could be a culprit? Could it be dust in the computer? It is a bit dusty downstairs in the basement where this iMac is housed.
This is maddening and I need the **** thing to be online to access crucial documents online. I'd rather not drag the whole mess up a floor and connect directly to the router via Ethernet but if that is what I will have to do then I guess I can deal with it. Problem is that the permanent home for the computer, at least for now, is downstairs.
Cannot access my Apple Account
I then noticed a dollar iTunes charge to my checking account. WTHeck Apple.
Any idea how I can fix this?

things i have tried: updated firmware (did not help)

does anyone here have any other ideas?
Grey Screen even with Install Disk
No idea if I'm posting this in the right place, hopefully I am.
Earlier today I was working on something in Parallels on my iMac, OS X 10.6.8. It froze and so did the rest of the computer. Nothing I did got a response so I did a manual shut down. When I rebooted all I got was a grey screen. I haven't had this happen before but I know it's a common issue.
I tried a couple different things. I can safeboot the computer. I ran disk utility and got a message that the disk needed to be repaired. I put in the Snow Leopard disk, held down C, but time after time all I get is a grey screen.
I've booted from the install disk before, so I don't think I'm just timing things wrong. I get the feeling the computer is reading the install disk, it just isn't displaying anything.
I ran disk utility again after this to see what the error was and it then said everything was fine. I verified the permissions, no problems there either. However, the grey screen persists if I just try to boot up like normal.
Are there other options here? I have nothing else connected except a mouse and keyboard
Application Wrapping When Using Gestures
Random question:
I have a macbook pro 15", 2009 model and just installed snow leopard about a week or so ago. When I had leopard and used gestures to select between programs (4 finger swipe to left or right) I seem to recall being able to select whether the selector scrolls to the end and stops when you are selecting between programs, or loops round... on snow leopard I can't seem to find this option?
I find it much easier to scroll all the way to the left to select the program on the far left, wheras with the wrapping if you scroll to far, the selector will appear on the right and side.
Hope this makes sense?! Does anyone know how to change this option at all? Can't find it in preferences anywhere and had a few looks for it!
Thanks all.

Question Regarding "BIOS"
Just to let you know, before I go on any more, I have a MacBook Pro 13" 2.7 GHz 4gb RAM Intel 3000 HD.
In my Mac partition, under system profiler, it says my Intel chip is using up 384Mb of shared video ram, but when I go into Windows, it says the chip is using up 1.7 Gb of shared RAM.
I like playing Team Fortress 2 on my Mac, but I've since recently decided to install it in Windows. For some reason, I had greater performance with the Mac version using identical settings. I have a feeling theres something to do with the lack of physical ram as opposed to video ram. So I would like to go into the BIOS and change the amount of video ram, but so far, I've had no success and there doesn't seem to be a way to access the BIOS at startup.
That's my situation. Any help is really appreciated here, since I want to figure out why my games are running worse with identical settings. Thank you.
how do i open up a file from windows, when i send it from my mac
PS. I just started to learn how to use mac, I have used windows my entire life. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SimCity 4 + OSX Lion = ???
I purchased a brand new iMac a few days ago and it shipped to my house with Lion as the default OS. My all-time favorite desktop game SimCity4 Deluxe for mac will not play since it's a PowerPC app. I've searched through google's immense catalog on Snow Leopard and Lion and unless my searches are using the wrong wording, I could find but one topic on how to install Snow Leopard onto a Lion computer. It involved having the new Lion-based mac and an old Snow Leopard mac running at the same time and using firewire cables and rebooting a bunch of different times, etc. Is this really the only way to install Snow Leopard onto a Lion computer?
Also, I do not want to run Windows on my computer AT ALL...I've been a mac user my entire life and I would hate to have to buy the PC version of the game...which is not retailed any more.
If any one can help me out I would greatly appreciate it...even if the answer is, "NO you can't do it, forget about it, get lost," at least i'll know where I stand.
Thanks in advance!!!

Flashing Folder At Startup Screen...
I've read through a lot of the suggestions: I've reset the PRAM, tried booting up the MACOSX install CD by holding down C (which won't boot up, you can just hear the CD spinning and trying to boot up but it doesn't), and tried to safe boot by holding shift. Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup <- Everything suggested there I've tried.
Any other suggestions? Or is my Macbook Pro officially dead?
Thanks for the help.

BMW Revives Plan to Badge 3-series Coupe and Convertible as 4-series
We’ve obtained confirmation from within BMW that a scheme to badge the 3-series coupe and convertible as 4-series models is on the table. Again. The company first examined the strategy with the introduction of the E46 coupe and convertible before ultimately deciding it was a bad idea, but recent rumblings indicated the plan’s resurrection.
If the 4er lineup finally comes to fruition, it would start with the introduction of the next-gen cars and provide a semblance of order to the entire BMW lineup, where odd numbers would apply to sedans, wagons, and the like (i.e. the 5- and the 3-series GTs), and even numbers would be found on ostensibly sportier models in the same size class. This has been BMW’s modus operandi in select instances in the past—think 5-series versus 6-series or X5 versus X6—and it’s already shown that the even/odd strategy will expand in the future with the FWD next-gen 1-series and the RWD 2-series. You can even see the blueprint in the recently revealed five-door i3 and two-door i8 concepts.
And so it makes sense. Except when it doesn’t. And that’s when it comes to the M3. BMW views that badge as far too iconic to simply abandon, so all M-tuned coupes and convertibles springing from the 3-series platform are likely to remain M3s. So much for drawing up a plan and sticking to it.

Toyota Tweets a Closeup of the 2012 Camry’s Headlight
Our spy shooters recently snagged some shots of a 2012 Toyota Camry hybrid parading around the desert in the buff, and now Toyota has Tweeted a closeup of the car’s headlight for us to peer at. The desert spy photos gave us one of our best looks yet at the next rendition of the top-seller sedan, and the hybrid model we captured sported splashes (bucketfuls?) of chrome on its front fascia and grille. The Camry in the Twitter image would appear to be a sporty SE model, given its unique full-width lower intake, foglights, mesh grille, and body-color grille surround that follow current sporty-Toyota practice.
New or not, this is the closest look yet at the Camry’s detailing. We can say that the headlight is very Acura TSX-like in its shape, and the body appears to have quite a few subtle creases stamped into it. Otherwise, though, those recent spy photos suggested there will be little about the Camry’s shape to generate excitement.

2012 Mercedes-Benz S350 BlueTec Diesel Tested: Return of the Oil-Burning S-class
Another fuel-sipping S-class that better fits in the Mercedes family.
The Mercedes-Benz S-class has more variants than any large luxury car, with powerplants ranging from a hybrid to this S350 diesel (the first supersized Benz oiler since 1995) to two twin-turbo V-8s and two twin-huffed V-12s. Throughout the vast expanse of the range, Mercedes has wisely aligned price with traditional notions of performance. For example, the S400 hybrid, at $92,275, is the cheapest Benz limo and the slowest to 60 mph; the slightly quicker $93,425 S350 BlueTec, available only in 4MATIC spec, undercuts an equivalently optioned S550 by around $4500.

Buick Prices Hot 270-hp Regal GS at $35,310, 36-mpg Regal with eAssist is $29,530
The number of Buick Regal variants is set to double this fall, as the base Regal and Regal Turbo are joined by a 270-hp Regal GS and an economy-minded Regal with a mild-hybrid system called eAssist. With the showroom debut of the latter two cars drawing nearer, the company announced pricing for both today: The 2012 Regal GS will start at $35,310, while the Regal with eAssist will begin at $29,530.
The Regal GS—GS stands for Gran Sport, an appellation for the hottest Buicks going back to the 1960s—will come with a 270-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 295 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, and a six-speed auto will land on the options sheet later in 2012. While the entry price is steep, the Regal GS will come very well equipped. In addition to the aggressive body kit and unique front fascia, the GS features standard 19-inch rims, front and rear parking assist, a leather-slathered interior, special flat-bottom steering wheel, metal pedals, and a Harman Kardon sound system. Still, for this sportiest of Regals, Buick is asking a lot of coin over the 220-hp Regal Turbo, which starts at $29,720. The automaker says the GS should be good for 27 highway miles per gallon of gas.
Buick-loyal shoppers who are more concerned about fuel economy will probably be interested in the $29,530 Regal with eAssist. (As a quick refresher from our earlier coverage, the eAssist system is a very mild hybrid setup with a small motor-generator and battery pack.) This is $2000 more expensive than an otherwise-identical non-eAssisted Regal with the same 182-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. With gas near $4, Buick says the added cost of the eAssist system will take three and a half years to recoup in fuel savings.
While the Regal eAssist’s 25-mpg-city/36-highway fuel economy rating is decent for a vehicle that weighs in at about 3600 pounds, it will face stiff competition from other efficient vehicles around the $30,000 mark. The first rival sits just across the showroom; it’s the Buick LaCrosse, which comes standard with the same eAssist system, boasts identical fuel economy numbers to those of the Regal eAssist, and is only marginally more expensive, starting at $30,820. The full-on hybrid version of the Lincoln MKZ is priced much higher, at $35,520, but does offer an EPA fuel economy rating of 41 mpg city/36 highway. In the non-hybrid, efficiency-minded, still-somewhat-premium-brand arena, a Volkswagen Passat TDI with an automatic transmission starts at $28,665 and has an EPA rating of 30/40.
We haven’t been blown away by the Regals we’ve sampled thus far—check out our review of the Regal Turbo with a manual transmission for an example—but we look forward to trying both new flavors of Regal to see if they justify their rather high asking prices. Check back soon for reviews of both.

2013 Cadillac XTS Finally Gets a Name
Cadillac has confirmed that it will introduce a new large luxury sedan in spring of 2012, a car that was previewed at the 2010 Detroit auto show by the XTS Platinum concept. Now we have learned that said flagship sedan will have a name, also previewed by the XTS Platinum concept (sans the Platinum and concept parts). There had been some thought that the XTS might be dubbed ETS for production, but GM apparently doesn’t believe ETS fits the big car as well as XTS.
Another term GM is not assigning to this car is the word “flagship.” Despite its larger-than-CTS size, the XTS will not go after the Mercedes-Benz S-class, Lexus LS and the like (Cadillac has plans for a proper rear-wheel-drive flagship for 2014 or 2015). Rather, the XTS will shamelessly target traditional Cadillac buyers, mainly aging boomers (i.e.: those who, unlike us, miss the old front-wheel-drive DTS) and probably a few livery operators as well. But these traditional buyers will have to adapt to a decidedly non-traditional interior. As we noted when we published spy photos of the XTS earlier this year, the XTS’s dashboard will be devoid of traditional switchgear and rely heavily on capacitive-touch controls, much like the Chevrolet Volt and Lincoln MKX. Buyers also will have to be content with the XTS’s planned V-6 and possible hybrid powertrains.
We predict the XTS’s packaging will sell well here, although an even more important market for the XTS is China. Given that country’s proclivities toward glitzy grilles and high-tech luxury, there’s a good chance that the XTS finds its largest market in Asia.

Three Lotus Elise/Exige Final Editions Headed to North America
If you’re a Lotus fan, we have some good news, some more good news, and some really good news for you today: Although this is the end of the line for Lotus’s bite-sized, iconic sports cars as we know them, Lotus is building three more special edition Elise and Exige models. Even better, all three “Final Edition” Lotuses were developed specifically for North America, where we’re all too accustomed to being passed over by Lotus when it comes to special editions. And the best news? If you can find one—only a handful of each will be built—each Final Edition Lotus comes loaded with options at a surprisingly low price, so not only are these little collectibles crazy fast, they’re crazy bargains.
So pick your favorite and get ready to fight for it. Here are the details:
The 2011 Elise SC Final Edition will be available in Ardent Red, Aspen White, Carbon Grey, or Chrome Orange, each with a matte-black hard top and matte-black exterior trim. Also included is the 218-hp, supercharged version of Lotus’s Toyota-sourced 1.8-liter four-banger, as well as a sport suspension, limited-slip differential, 14-spoke forged wheels, Alcantara-covered ProBax seats, and the Touring Pack’s snazzy interior trim. Only 15 will be offered for $58,625, only $2510 more than the base Elise SC.
The 2011 Exige Matte Black Final Edition is covered in matte-black paint, including the rear wing, front splitter, and body scoops, with a three-element rear diffuser rendered in a black anodized finish. Powered by the Exige S260 Sport model’s 257-hp supercharged four, the sinister coupe features an equally spooky, reflection-free interior swathed in Alcantara, as well as a limited-slip diff and five-spoke wheels. It also includes Lotus’s Sport Pack and Track Pack option packages. Just 25 will be produced for $71,025, roughly $5000 less than the Exige S260 Sport, which costs $76,120 before any pricey paint and option packs.
The 2011 Exige S260 Final Edition will be available in any of Lotus’s paint colors, with body-color scoops and spoilers and black five-spoke wheels. It features the same 257-hp supercharged engine, rear diffuser, Track Pack, and Sport Pack options as the Matte Black Final Edition. It also includes the Touring Pack and the optional limited-slip diff. Best of all, it is a stunning deal at $68,625, with production capped at 30. We’re sorry to see the Elise and Exige go, but glad to see Lotus bid them an appropriate farewell.

Surprise: Aston Martin One-77 Sounds Amazing [VIDEO]
Aston Martin’s limited-run One-77 halo car is a lot of things, but beautiful, aggressive, and rare are the traits that spring instantly to mind. Now you can definitively add “sonorous” to that group: Aston has released a new video of a One-77 laying waste to twisty and achingly scenic European roads, all accompanied by the incredible sound of the car’s 750-hp, 7.3-liter V-12 engine. Enjoy the brief clip below, although the unnecessary jazz flute background score spoils a bit of the fun.

Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5 – Archived Road Test
Mercedes’ fuel-injected, ohc, small V-8 debuts.
Automobiles may indeed be sex symbols, as has been suggested in song, fable and the occasional serious treatise. Even so, sexiness is a quality almost impossible to detect in most of the Mercedes-Benz cars with which we are acquainted. Granted, the old gullwing coupe was pure, purple passion on wheels; granted, too, that the new C111 has an impressively visceral appeal that may well be sexy if a racing car/space capsule mix is what grabs you. But nowhere do we see an appeal to prurient interest in the mainstream of Mercedes-Benz automobiles.

Toyota Says RAV4 EV Will Be Built Alongside Normal RAV4s in Canada
Last month, Toyota confirmed that its electric RAV4 EV was on track to go on sale in 2012. It reconfirmed that timetable today with the announcement that the electric SUV will be built alongside its gas-powered counterpart at Toyota’s Woodstock, Ontario, plant. Electric carmaker Tesla will supply the soft-roader’s motor, gearbox, battery, and electronics, which will be shipped as assembled units from Tesla’s Palo Alto, California, facility. It may only be a humble crossover, but we’re intrigued to see how this fruit of the Toyota/Tesla tie-up turns out.

Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9 – Archived Road Test
Fastest European Sedan: Mercedes Unleashes the Potent 6.9! Just as they’re closing the gas station.
Five-hundred Americans will fork over a total of $19,500,000 for the pleasure of owning Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9s in the next twelve months and, presumably, each year thereafter, until Mr. Carter or his successor puts a stop to all such automotive hedonism. Except for the vagaries of international monetary fluctuations, the 6.9 might have made it to this country for $23,000 or so, but inflation, the strength of the Deutsche mark and the relative weakness of the dollar and everything else have combined to dictate that your own personal 6.9 sedan will cost you $38,230 f.o.b. New York. For your money, you’ll get, perhaps, the ultimate manifestation of the basic Daimler-Benz idea of how automobiles are supposed to be designed and built—the best Mercedes-Benz automobile ever sold.

Porsche All But Confirms Plans for a Mid-Engine Supercar to Slot Between the 911 and 918
Short of actually putting out a press release to announce production, Porsche executives have spoken in significant detail about plans for a mid-engine supercar. The sports car would be positioned directly between the higher-performance 911 models and the limited-production 918 (shown above). In an interview with German newspaper Handelsblatt, Porsche CEO Matthias Müller said that “there would be room for a mid-engine sports car above the 911.” Such a model “in a price segment of 400,000 euros” has good chances of being built, he adds.
The new mid-engine supercar will directly target Ferrari’s 458 Italia and its eventual successor—a benchmark that is sure to grab the attention of Ferdinand Piech, the head of the VW Group’s supervisory board and an avowed Ferrari aficionado. He has gone on the record before saying that Porsche is “a diamond in need of being polished,” and this car could be the stuff of his dreams. In addition to offering stratospheric performance, the supercar would appeal to potential buyers who prefer the inherently balanced dynamics of mid-engine cars to the 911′s rear-engine layout. Porsche continues to defy physics with its 911, but its magic can only go so far; this is why the company has always carefully avoided taking the mid-engine twins into 911 territory in terms of price and power.
No details have emerged yet on platform and powerplants, but it’s likely that the new supercar will use many components from the upcoming “modular sports architecture” which is being developed for the next generation of Audi, Lamborghini and Porsche sports cars. Assume 911-Turbo-topping power of 600 hp or more, 0-to-60 times in the three-to-four-second range, and a top speed north of 200 mph. While the car will use aluminum and carbon fiber to keep its weight down, it likely won’t be a hybrid technology showcase like the upcoming 918—which, not surprisingly, will be just about twice as expensive.
The new model is part of Porsche CEO Matthias Müller’s plan to change any public perceptions that company’s focus has shifted to building SUVs and four-door sedans. It’s not that Porsche is planning to leave these segments—on the contrary, more vehicles like the Panamera and Cayenne are coming, like a small crossover called the Cajun. But the supercar should help tip Porsche’s scales back toward hardcore sports cars. With this in the works, and the company also announcing plans to return to Le Mans with its own team in 2014, we bet Piech is smiling.

2014 Audi RS7 Spy Photos: Sexy A7 Shape, Stunning 600 HP
Take Audi’s shapeliest four-door and add its beefiest powertrain. Bring it to the U.S., please.
These spy photographs seem too good to be true—they suggest that Audi is working on a higher-performance version of its sleek A7 hatchback. We’ve already caught the 2012 S7 out testing, but an RS7? The air intakes on this prototype suggest an RS model, but the quadruple exhaust tips and the unchanged body are S trademarks. RS models typically—though not always—have dual oval exhaust tips and, more important, a modified, significantly wider body.
