Dodge Releases Teaser Images of 2013 Dart’s Interior, Promises Plenty of Tech and Upscale Features

Dodge Releases Teaser Images of 2013 Dart’s Interior, Promises Plenty of Tech and Upscale Features:

A week ago Dodge released two photos of its upcoming 2013 Dart’s exterior, along with some basic mechanical specs, which you can read here. Today, it’s showing off two glimpses of the compact’s insides. The two closely framed images show the instrument cluster and the center stack. Dodge says there will be plenty of soft-touch material throughout the Dart’s cabin, and we have little reason to doubt this. The automaker’s recent offerings all have vastly improved interiors. If you need more proof, check out the red-stitched dashboard seen in the photo above.

One of the Dart’s cooler features is an available TFT multifunction screen stuffed into the gauge cluster. In addition to its surprisingly Audi-like appearance, the screen is reconfigurable. The only two analog gauges are a tachometer to the left, and a fuel gauge to the right. Speed can be displayed as a numerical readout, or the driver can summon up a digitized analog speedometer. One noteworthy upscale feature is the option to display the current speed limit in the corner of the screen.

A Uconnect touch screen also will be available, and like in other Uconnect Chrysler products of late, navigation prompts can be displayed in the instrument cluster. There’s also an available heated steering wheel and lots of ambient lighting. That ambient lighting, seen in the photos as a glowing red band wrapped around the instrument cluster and center stack, was designed to mimic the “racetrack” lighting of the Dart’s LED taillights. It looks like there’s enough of the red stuff for it to no longer be considered “ambient,” but we’ll wait until we see the interior in person to make any judgments. Oh, and the glovebox can hold an iPad. The 2013 Dart will premier at the Detroit auto show in January, before going on sale sometime in 2012.

Ford Focus ST-R Turnkey Race Car Priced at $98,995, Deliveries Begin Late 2012

Ford Focus ST-R Turnkey Race Car Priced at $98,995, Deliveries Begin Late 2012:

Ford Focus ST-R

The order books for the 2012 Ford Focus ST-R race car are open, and Ford has priced its turnkey pocket racer at $98,995. The price may seem a bit overwhelming for what is essentially a stripped-down 2013 Ford Focus ST, but it’s relatively cheap for a complete race car. Right out of the box, the turbocharged ST-R is ready for Grand-Am’s ST (Street Tuner) class. Some of you may be thinking, “But wait, isn’t the more-powerful 2013 Mustang Cobra Jet drag racer much cheaper?” It is—with an expected base price of $85,490, it’s exactly $13,505 cheaper. However, comparing the prices of the two isn’t an apples-to-apples affair. Both are expensive, purpose-built race cars, but each one has a very different life mission. Like the Cobra Jet, the Focus ST-R is a part number in the Ford Racing catalog, and is available to order at any Ford dealership. Ford Racing expects to begin delivering ST-Rs to customers in the fourth quarter of 2012.

2013 Viper To Drop Dodge From Name, Be Branded as SRT Model

2013 Viper To Drop Dodge From Name, Be Branded as SRT Model:

2013 Dodge Viper (spy photo)

We already knew the next-generation Viper would debut late next year as a 2013 model, but Chrysler dropped a surprise today in regards to the car’s name. In a press release about the new Viper’s assembly plant, there was but a single mention of Dodge, and it was used in reference to the last-gen car. The new Viper was solely referred to as the “2013 SRT Viper,” not the “2013 Dodge Viper.”

An SRT spokesman confirmed that, when it goes on sale next year, the Viper will be branded as an SRT model, the first car marketed as such. Given Chrysler’s previous efforts to offload the Viper operation as a standalone car brand—not to mention the repositioning of Ram as a separate make—this is not a particularly surprising move. As long as the brute is powered by a heart-stoppingly powerful V-10, then we don’t particularly care what it’s called.

Ferrari Tailor-Made

Ferrari Tailor-Made:

Ferrari Tailor-Made5

Want your Ferrari to stand out from the crowd? Then the marque’s new Tailor-Made program is what you need.

The Tailor-Made program continues a longstanding Maranello tradition which began in the 1950s and 60s, when clients personalized their cars as a matter of course and enjoyed huge freedom when it came to materials, colors and finish. The result was genuinely unique cars tailored to suit the desires of each individual owner.

Ferrari Tailor-Made6

That prestigious past has now been revived through a program that permits owners to specify every last detail of their Ferrari, from the exterior livery color to the cabin trim, via an unprecedented choice of finishes, accessories, materials, treatments and colors. All of which are the fruit of the ongoing research and development by the Ferrari Styling Center, taking inspiration from the company’s core values of innovation, elegance and passion.

Owners are assisted and guided through the selection process by their own Personal Designer who is charged with guaranteeing that the resulting cars are both unique and consistent with the Ferrari brand and its tradition. Once the car’s details have been defined, the client can then track all of the various processes involved in its creation, right up until they take delivery or go to Maranello to collect their car.

Ferrari Tailor-Made1

Scuderia, Classica and Inedita are the three different collections to choose from to create bespoke Ferraris through unique combinations of the many options available.

The Scuderia collection is very much an homage to the track, a fact reflected in the materials and finishes it includes. The list of options ranges from carbon fiber trim to technical fabrics, chamois and rubberized leather, Alcantara, micro-fibers, Kevlar, satin-finish and matte metals.

Ferrari Tailor-Made2

In the Classica collection, the styling cues and features are given a more modern yet still classic look, through the use of the latest materials and production techniques. Elegant pastel colors of the past; the use of vintage leather, or wool, cashmere or velvet; special treatments for the hard areas of the cabin to match the exterior; chromed elements, stitching details and more natural leathers are just some of the options available.

Ferrari Tailor-Made3

Inedita is the most experimental of the three collections and Ferrari feels it may well give rise to some of the classic trims and finishes of the future. Denim, bold leather upholstery, suit fabrics and technical fabrics are just a few of the innovative and intriguing options available to owners who choose to personalize their cars from the Inedita collection.

Panamericana Record Broken1

Rainer Zietlow and his team have set a new course record for the Carretera Panamericana race with a driving time of just 11 days, 17 hours and 22 minutes, driving a Volkswagen Touareg 3.0-liter V-6 TDI.

Panamericana Record Broken15

Zietlow and his team covered a total of 14,136 miles between Tierra del Fuego and Alaska, passing through 17 countries as well as most of the Earth’s climate and vegetation zones in the record drive. Zietlow broke the previous world record set in 2006 by four days.

Lotus Esprit Scheduled for 2014

Lotus Esprit Scheduled for 2014:

2013 Lotus Esprit at the 2011 Paris Auto Show

The all-new Lotus Esprit will be revealed at the 2013 Geneva Auto Show before going on sale later that year in the UK and Europe. U.S. sales, said chief executive, Dany Bahar will start in 2014.

Bahar, who has just signed a new four-year contract with Lotus’ parent company Proton, said the base Esprit will be a hybrid with more hardcore versions shedding weight and higher engine outputs for increased performance. He added that Lotus’ U.S. headquarters will move from its current Atlanta location to “either Miami or New York” before the Esprit’s U.S. debut by which time he expects to have 50 dealers in place.

Lotus city car rival to Aston Martin’s Cygnet arrives in 2015 with a choice of EV and hybrid powertrains, a year after its launch as a Proton. The Lotus model, said Bahar, would reflect the brands core DNA of lightweight performance, but that will come at a price: here in the UK it’s likely to cost the equivalent of $45,000 although that still undercuts the Cygnet by more than $3000.

Before the new range appears, the limited -edition Evora GT will go into production beginning in April of 2012 while Bahar promised “exciting” developments for both the Evora and the Exige with a hard core and improved Elise in the offing.

Lotus expects to build 2670 cars this year with a 20% increased in revenue.

Success for Dacia Lodgy Glace

Success for Dacia Lodgy Glace:

Dacia Lodgy Glace

A few weeks ago I wrote about the ludicrously named Dacia Lodgy Glace ice racer which has now claimed its first podium position when it came third in the opening race at Val Thorens, France, driven by Evens Stievenart.

Dacia Lodgy Glace

By its very definition ice racing demands the ground should be covered with the slippery stuff, but there was a distinct lack of it as wintry conditions had yet to settle in the French Alps.

Dacia Lodgy Glace

Stievenart was quoted after the race as saying, “I continued to drive as though I was on ice, but a racing driving style would have been more appropriate. That’s a lesson for the future. The positives are that I’ve scored points and been able to get an idea of the Dacia Lodgy Glace’s potential. I am third in the provisional Trophée Andros standings, so that’s satisfying. We will work as a team to ensure that Alain Prost [who finished eighth- IA] catches up with the leaders to challenge for what promises to be an extremely competitive championship.”

Viper Production to Resume

Viper Production to Resume:

Viper Production to Resume

Chrysler announced that it will resume production of the Viper, now called the 2013 SRT Viper next fall at the Conner Avenue assembly plant in Detroit, according to Ralph Gilles, president and CEO of the SRT brand. It was thought that the Viper may be shown as early as the North American International Auto Show in January, but the late 2012 startup date means that the debut will probably come later, perhaps at the Chicago or New York show.
