2014 Mercedes C-Class: spy shots
The 2014 Mercedes C-Class (codenamed BR205) has been spotted during its first winter testing, and here are a few spy shots of the model. As you can see in these images, the pictured mule is wearing quite some heavy camouflage which makes it really difficult to see the lines of the new design, with the only exception of the roof. The model is expected do draw some inspiration from the F800 Concept Car showcased at the Geneva Motor Show in 2010, especially as far as its front end is concerned. Considering that the C-Class is probably the most important model for Mercedes-Benz, it seems unlikely that they will experiment too much with the design of the new model, but in order to compete with such cars as the Audi A4 and the 3-Series from BMW it will have to look dynamic and sporty.
The new C-Class will come with an engine range made of several petrol and diesel units, but it will also see the addition of a hybrid powertrain for the first time. The sedan version will be the first C-Class body-type to become available on the market in early 2014, followed by the wagon a few months later. The coupe and convertible version instead are supposed to debut in early 2015. Apparently, the new C-Class will be produced in the US as well: rumor has it that the Alabama plant will build the C-Class as well as the GL and M-Class.
Retro Corvette by Pogea Racing
If you’ve got $300k burning a hole in your pocket you could get German tuning house, Pogea Racing, to build a modern version of the classic ’59 Corvette like the one pictured here.
The chassis for this project consists of an in-house tube frame manufactured in cooperation with the USA’s Foose Design. This frame not only significantly improves the convertible’s torsional stiffness, but it also forms a base on which to mount the height-adjustable coil-over suspension, as well as the modern drive and brake systems.
Pogea opted for a Corvette LS3 as used in the current Corvette but modified it to increase performance. Besides LS7 fuel injectors, aggressive camshafts and a direct, open intake with tip cone filter, the exhaust flow was tuned and features Edelbrock exhaust manifolds coupled with a stainless steel exhaust system. It now produces an impressive 485 bhp at 4400 rpm and 431 lb.-ft. of torque at 6200 rpm driving the rear wheels via a manual 5-speed gearbox with ceramic clutch and a Dana 44 differential.
Zero to 62 mph now takes a mere 3.9 seconds with a top speed of 179 mph.
The brake system has been taken from the Corvette LS5, with perforated internally vented discs, 13.0-in. front and 11.8-in. rear, featuring 6- and 4-piston calipers, front and rear, respectively.
Specially developed three-part Pogea Racing wheels, 18 x 9.5J and 19 x 12J, are fitted with. Bridgestone Potenza 265/40R-18 and 305/30R-19 tires.
To accommodate the rear wheels, Pogea widened the rear by 14.5 in., to just over 82 in., which spoils the original car’s aesthetics somewhat.

Renault Twingo RS facelift
The new, facelifted Renault Twingo RS is about to enter the market. The most sporty model of the range has been administered the same kind of treatment of the other ‘quieter’ versions, thereby it boasts a new front end with four separated head lights and two extra lights at the back. Besides, the ‘RS’ receives a front spoiler inspired by Formula 1 cars, a trunk spoiler, a little diffuser, diminutive air outlets on the wheel arches and 16″ ‘Emotion’ alloys. Renault will also offer a Design Pack Dark Grey which adds gray/Dark Metal accents on the front spoiler, on the wing mirror shells and a chrome strip on the foglight frames.
In the cabin we have yellow stitching on steering wheel, seats and instrument panel covering, Brilliant Black inserts for dashboard, console, radio, tachometer and side air vents and then white elements for the upper steering wheel, seats, rev-counter and air-conditioning controls. The model comes with the same 1.6-litre petrol engine of the previous version, credited with an output of 133 hp at 6,750 rpm and a maximum torque of 160 Nm at 4,400 rpm, while average fuel consumption is rated at 6.5 l/100 km and CO2 emission at 150 g/km.
The technicians of the Renault Sport division have also developed two kinds of chassis: the one called ‘Sport’ comes as standard while the one called Cup, available upon request, provides for a ride height reduced by 4 mm. A Gordini version of the Twingo RS is also in the cards and will be available with the following color options: Malta Blue, Ice White, Nacrè Black and Bright Red.

Mazda MX-5 Special Edition Spring
Mazda introduces the MX-5 Special Edition Spring, a limited edition for the European markets that will be showcased at the next Geneva Motor Show (March 8-18). The model will come with either a soft top or a retractable hardtop, and can be distinguished from the other versions by the exclusive Radiant Ebony paint job, the thin chrome outline of the front grille, the Havana Brown leather upholstery and the sat-nav with multi-function screen. However, if the Radiant Ebony color isn’t quite your thing, the already known Crystal White Pearl, Metropolitan Grey and Brilliant Black options will also be available.
The Mazda MX-5 Special Edition Spring will have just one engine, a 1.8-litre delivering 126 hp, which is enough to push the model from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 9.9 seconds, with a claimed top speed of 198 km/h (123 mph).

BMW M6: more official pictures released
BMW releases more official images of the new M6 Coupe and M6 Convertible. The new M6 range comes with the same 4.4-litre V8 engine of the M5, credited with an output of 560 hp and 680 Nm (500 lb-ft) of maximum torque, meaning 52 hp and 165 Nm (122 lb-ft) more than the naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V10 of the generation it is about to replace. This unit is coupled to a 7-speed ‘dual clutch’ transmission.
As for sheer performance, both versions of the new M6 are right on the money. The new Coupe version weighs in at 1,850kg (the previous one weighed 1710kg), and still manages to burn the 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds. Weighing in at 1,980 kg, the new M6 convertible is a good 50 kg heavier than the old one, and still it boasts a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 4.3 seconds. Both variants have a self-imposed top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph), but this figure can go up to 305 km/h (190 mph) with the addition of the ‘M’ Driver’s Package.
