Since it has two zipup pockets -one for the camera alone it is easy to remove the camera without disturbing the storage pocket which I use for exrta memory, battery, and a mini tripod. I use a neck strap to carry it around but could put it in my pocket if desired. The only improvement in the design may be a belt strap, but for cases of my other cameras I find that I dont use a belt strap feature anyways. P.S. very pleased with the Zi8 camera and no longer lug around my full size video camera. There’s room for the camera, spare SD cards, a spare battery, and some cables. It’s a good case for carrying the camera around on a day trip, but be warned that it won’t hold everything (it won’t hold a small tripod or the charger, for example). It comes with a shoulder strap (cheap and thin, but usable), and the construction quality seems to be decent. If you’re looking for a case to protect your Zi8 or similar-sized item, but not one that will hold all of the accessories, I recommend this one. Just be aware of the fact that, if you want all of your accessories including the charger, you’ll want a larger case. I’m told we’ll be seeing the 5D Mark III announced in October, with delivery shortly there after. I was not given any specs, which is probably a good sign.

We said originally, that the 5D Mark III would come before a 1Ds Mark IV or similar camera. Things appear to have come full circle and negate a lot of what I’ve been told this fall in regards to the 5D3.

Next Announcement Date?

We have the middle of September, possibly September 13-September 15 timeframe for a few more PowerShots. Some folks don’t read the site all that well and have posted other dates quoting us.

We should see the S95 & SX30 successors.

G13? We have heard absolutely nothing about a new G camera. It’s genrally on a 1 year product cycle, which would make it due for replacement any day now.

The Canon HF-DC2 High-Power Flash

To further enhance the built-in flash of the PowerShot lineup, Canon has developed the HF-DC2 High-Power Flash , which increases the effective flash range up to approximately 30 feet and supports 24mm wide-angle shooting with the wide-panel attachment. The HF-DC2 automatically fires in-sync with the camera’s built-in flash and operates wirelessly to capture subjects at twice the range of the camera’s built-in flash. The HF-DC2 includes a mounting bracket that attaches to the camera, but it can also be hand-held or mounted on a tripod. The HF-DC2 High-Power Flash is scheduled to be available in December for an estimated retail price of $149.99.
