The Mastretta MXT makes its Los Angeles debut. When seen up close, the car is small, so it’s 200-bhp mid-mounted Duratec powerplant should be plenty to provide thrills behind the wheel.

2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 Super Bee: What’s the Buzz? – 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show

2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 Super Bee: What’s the Buzz? – 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show:

2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 Super Bee

More: 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show News

The 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 Super Bee harkens back to the original Super Bee from the 1960s and its mantra of affordable performance.

2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 Super Bee

Starting with a Charger SRT8, Dodge applied unique Yellow Jacket graphics on the rear quarter panel and an emblem on the grille. Further Super Bee changes include unique 20 x 9-in. cast aluminum wheels and black (instead of red) Brembo calipers. Performance is the same as a standard SRT8, which is powered by a 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 producing 470 bhp and 470 lb.-ft. of torque.

2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 Super Bee

The suspension is similar to the SRT8’s, but the Super Bee doesn’t have active damping, most likely as a cost-cutting measure.

In the cabin, the SRT8 steering wheel is standard on the Super Bee, but the paddle shifters are optional. The black cloth seats are adorned with the Super Bee logo and

a silver and yellow “Z stripe.” Another Super Bee emblem is found on the passenger side of the dash.

2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 Super Bee

Production for the 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 Super Bee is limited to 1000 units, with 500 available in Pitch Black and the other 500 in Stinger Yellow. Pricing hasn’t been announced but Dodge says that it will be somewhere between Charger R/T and the SRT8.

And therein is the buzz surrounding this new Dodge: The new Super Bee offers you SRT8 power, but at less of a price than the SRT8 model. Ordering starts in December, with vehicles arriving in the first quarter of 2012.

A Personal Plea to Chevrolet: Build a Cruze SS! – 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show:

WTCC Chevrolet Cruze

More: 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show News

Smack dab in the middle of Chevrolet’s stand at the Los Angeles Auto Show is a Chevy Cruze. No big surprise, except this one beats BMW, Honda and all other comers in the World Touring Car Championship. Yes, this is basically the same chassis that supports the Volt and the 40-mpg Cruze Eco!

WTCC Chevrolet Cruze

This is precisely why we eagerly await a Cruze SS powered by a 260-plus-bhp version of the 2.0-liter turbo engine from the Buick Regal GS and former Cobalt SS. Chevy PR says the company is not going to make a Cruze SS, but I feel that’s a mistake, given the success of the car in the FIA WTCC.

WTTC Chevrolet Cruze

Sure, it’s not a well known series here in the U.S., a point illustrated by two journalists who thought the Cruze on the LA stand was a rally car or a time-trial special. Nope…it’s a winning road race car. Chevrolet, if you’re listening, build a Cruze SS, paint it blue and equip it with ATS wheels. Please.

At a quick glance, you’d never know there are 135 new parts in this 2012 Lotus Evora S. One notable change? The Pioneer navigation system—we’ve never been fans of the original Alpine unit, so this is a welcome upgrade.

Another update we appreciate is the Premium Sport interior. The multi-textured leather and fabric sport seats are set off with tons of red stitching. Very nice.

Curiously, this particular car at the Los Angeles Auto Show features shift paddles, making it probably the first production-level S IPS ever made. This Euro-spec car was originally shown at Frankfurt earlier this year.

Officially my first, “What are they thinking?” moment from the 2011 L.A. Auto Show: A surfer-themed woodie Mitsubishi i.

Is an electric car still eco-friendly if it has timber slapped on the front and sides? Thankfully, the plasti-wood we’re looking at here certainly never spent any time in a forest.

Gotta love the thought of surfboards on the roof though. They would be almost as long as the car… Or is it longer?

Jaguar XF Averages 52.3 mpg

Jaguar XF Averages 52.3 mpg:

Jaguar XF Averages 52.3 mpg

Jaguar’s XF 2.2 diesel which left New York eight days ago has completed its 2884 mile run to Los Angeles averaging 52.3 (US) mpg, making it the most efficient Jaguar yet. I can believe this as my previous generation Jaguar diesel wagon would regularly return 41 (US) mpg on freeway hauls, and that was with only a six-speed manual and not the eight-speed auto this XF is equipped with.

The journey took in 11 states, three time zones and eight days. Yet the XF only required four stops for fuel – its peak economy of 55.7 (US) mpg being achieved on the penultimate day of the trip.

Jaguar XF Averages 52.3 mpg

Paul Alcock, XF project manager, Jaguar Cars, who was present throughout the journey, commented: “This project was designed primarily to test the potential economy of the XF 2.2. The figures achieved by the car were accomplished through making every element of the new XF as efficient as possible – from its aerodynamics to its four-cylinder 2.2-liter diesel engine linked to an eight-speed gearbox. It’s a graphic demonstration of the strength, engineering integrity and efficiency of the car.”

Jaguar XF Averages 52.3 mpg

Driven by independent testers, David and Alexander Madgwick, the XF 2.2 was a standard UK registered, right-hand drive vehicle. In the course of the coast to coast adventure, the car maintained an average speed of 53 mph incorporating a multitude of real-life scenarios including the busy roads exiting New York and, towards the end of the trip, entering Los Angeles, as well as encountering road work, high winds and a climb to 7,275 feet above sea level.
