Audi A2 Concept: official video available

Audi A2 Concept: official video available:

Audi releases a one-minute-and-a-half long video dedicated to the A2 Concept, which was premiered at the latest Frankfurt Motor Show. This futuristic footage shows us a 3D reconstruction of the design of the car, also emphasizing some of its most distinctive features such as its all-electric powertrain. The actual prototype of this model measures 3.80 meters in length, 1.69 meters in width and 1.49 meters in height, and is also an anticipation of the next generation of the A2, the little compact hatchback that the house of the four rings produced between 1999 and 2005.

The A2 Concept boasts such features as a photochromic roof with a command on the inside of the car, LED technology for the head lamps, an adaptable light control and an innovative lighting system for the interior, which the above video explains quite well. Besides, the lights running along the length of the car detect the owner’s approach and can open the doors with a “gesture control”.

The whole videoclip is made in CGI, but if you want to see the A2 Concept ‘in-the-metal’, check out the official photo gallery of the prototype showcased in Frankfurt by clicking on one of the thumbnails below.

Porsche celebrates 2 millionth Facebook fan with special Cayman S

Porsche celebrates 2 millionth Facebook fan with special Cayman S:

Porsche: una speciale Cayman S per celebrare 2 milioni di fan su Facebook

In order to celebrate the 2 million fans of its Facebook page, Porsche presents a special version of its Cayman S with a white coat and 2 millions of red-tinted profile pictures on its livery. The color scheme adopted by the model is not casual, but was voted by the fans themselves who were asked to choose their favorite historic racing livery. The eventual winner of this poll was the red and white Porsche 917 K with that clinched the first victory at Le Mans for the German manufacturer with Richard Atwood and Hans Herrmann behind the wheel.

The car is obviously meant to be a tribute to each one of these dedicated fans, and will be on display at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgard until January, 27th. If you happen to be one of those 2 million fans, you can look for your face on the car’s body by accessing this dedicated webpage.

GM develops interactive side windows

GM develops interactive side windows:

General Motors and the students from Israel’s Bezalel Academy of Art and Design have created the Windows Of Opportunity (WOO), a device which will basically turn the car’s side windows into multifunctional touch screens. With the WOO, passengers will be allowed to play, draw, write messages, interact with the surroundings and so on, making bored kids complaining on the back seat a distant memory. The device is still well into its testing stage and uses both motion and optical sensor technology, but at the moment it does not feature the “smart glass” function (that would modify the transparency or black out the windows), which will be implemented if the WOO will actually enter into production.

The current Windows of Opportunity prototype makes use of four different characters/apps called Otto, Foofu, Spindow and Pond - each one of which is in charge of a single specific function - that should be able to effectively entertain the kids while introducing them to the use of the WOO. We will be waiting for further development of this interesting idea, but for now you can enjoy the exhaustive video above.

Chevrolet announces the winning ad of its XLVI Super Bowl contest

Chevrolet announces the winning ad of its XLVI Super Bowl contest:

A while ago we told you about Chevy offering 10,000 $ to the person who was going to share most videos of the finalists of its ‘Chevrolet Route 66′ global contest, meant to select one of the five commercials that Chevy will broadcast during the next XLVI Super Bowl. Now we have a winner. No, we don’t know what happened to the 10,000 bucks, we have the ad that defeated the other 197 entries (from 32 different countries) and won itself a slot during the most watched TV show of the planet, coming up next February 5th.

The victorious commercial is called “Chevy Happy Grad”, by 26 years old director Zach Borst from Long Island, NY. The video is indeed pretty funny, and we would like to congratulate Mr.Borst as well on its well-deserved triumph. The title of the ad is somewhat revealing, but we won’t tell you anything else in order to avoid spoiling the surprise. By the way, the featured car is a Chevrolet Camaro Convertible, just in case you were wondering..

Porsche Panamera facelift: spy shots

Porsche Panamera facelift: spy shots:

Porsche Panamera facelift spy shots

It seems like today it’s Panamera day here at Eurocarblog. Here are the latest spy shots of the restyled Porsche Panamera, captured while testing in the snow. The model will not feature any revolutionary change in comparison to the current version as the face-lift will imply just a few cosmetic modifications that will make the next Panamera more ‘aligned’ to the design language adopted by the last 911. The pictured mule sports slightly different head lights and a newly designed front bumper, while the rear is expected to receive a new layout for the tail lights and probably a different rear bumper too.

Rumor has it that the engine range for the re-styled Panamera will see the addition of a new 3.0-litre 6-cylinder diesel unit courtesy of Audi origin to the current line-up, producing 313 hp. The revamped Panamera is expected to debut on the market by the end of this year, while a longer wheel-base version will soon enter the Chinese market.
