This is the car you buy when a Bugatti Veyron seems common, and a flight on Virgin Galactic isn’t quite quick enough. The Hennessey Venom GT supercar packs a 1,200-bhp turbocharged V-8, and is supposedly capable of 275 mph – or roughly 10 mph quicker than the fastest time ever record by a Bugatti.
Hennessey Performance plans on unveiling the first Venom GT headed to an American customer on Wednesday, August 17, at the McCall’s Motorworks Revival ahead of the Pebble Beach weekend. The bright “bug-killer” yellow (Hennessey’s term, no kidding) Venom GT can be seen at the RM Auction at the Portolla Plaza hotel in Monterey from Thursday, August 18, through Saturday, August 20.
“Twelve hundred horsepower combined with in a mid-engine chassis that weighs twelve hundred kilos (2,685 lbs.) – no other road car and only a handful of race cars can match the power to weight ratio of the Venom GT,” said company president and founder, John Hennessey. During our time behind the wheel, we colorfully referred to the acceleration of the Venom GT as “a savage burst of cheek-smooshing, gut-compressing, momentarily brain-addling force.” In other words, this car is crazy fast.
It’s also wildly expensive and incredibly rare. Each Venom GT costs $950,000, not including owner-specific “upgrades” and shipping costs. Hennessey plans on building only five examples annually.
