New Porsche Supersports vs Ferrari

New Porsche Supersports vs Ferrari:

Porsche 918 RSR

The need for Porsche to compete on Ferrari territory has been around for some time, but it’s only now that the Truth about Cars quotes German publication Süddeutsche Zeitung on the development of a new Porsche supersports car. According to Porsche head Mattias Muller, there is a big gap between where Porsche leaves off and Ferrari picks up, before getting to the highly exclusive Porsche 918.

Muller is quoted as saying:

It bugs me that the 911 stops at around €250,000, and then things start moving again with the 918 for €750,000. Ferrari builds a comfortable and pretty much competition-free nest. We need to get in there.

So it looks like Porsche is building a price point and business case before the new car itself. Apparently pricing is set to be between €250,000 and €450,000 and production could be about 100,000 models a year. If Porsche steps into the Ferrari fray, it will do so alongside McLaren who is building its own Ferrari competitor in the MP4-12C. The British company though, is also aiming at a more “budget” McLaren model to compete with the Porsche 911, too, so things could get interesting in these segments.
