In the first of a series of online videos, Cadillac invites viewers to watch the company develop its new rear-wheel-drive ATS luxury sedan on the treacherous Nürburgring Nordschleife. At approximately 13 miles in length and comprising more than 70 corners, the ‘Ring (as it’s commonly known) is famous for being one of the most demanding and complex racetracks in the world. Cadillac intends to use the track to push the ATS to the limit, and prove its new small sedan has the moves to match German competitors like the BMW 3-Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4.
The first “ATS the Journey” video is pretty much a two-minute teaser of what the car – and Cadillac’s drivers andengineers – will face while taking on this iconic racetrack. The wraps are literally pulled off the new ATS, though thetest car remains covered in black and white camouflage. Scheduled for introduction next summer as a 2013 model, the ATS will be available in rear and all-wheel-drive formats. A turbocharged 4-cylinder will be the base engine, with a 380-bhp twin turbo V-6 slatted for an upcoming performance-themed ATS-V.
No word yet as to whether the ATS will branch off coupe and wagon variants, like the larger Cadillac CTS. Stay tuned for further details, and more tire-smoking Cadillacs at the ‘Ring.
