While in Vegas, we were invited to a party at which guests were greeted by women holding Tommy guns and wearing pinstripe mobster suits. Only they weren’t suits—it was body paint. If body-painted mobster chicks, then airbrushed lowrider ice-cream truck. This city and the things that happen in it make sense only to a select crowd of loons.
This truck is the work of graffiti master and tattoo-artist-to-the-stars Mister Cartoon, who has inked Eminem, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, and Beyoncé. Starting with a 1963 International as his canvas, it took him about 10 years to finish and landed a central place in his Art in the Streets exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. Someone there must have appreciated the Chevrolet Impala turning into a banana split and the Betty Boop popsicle. L.A. is a weird place, too.
