Those of us who have traveled to Trollhättan, Sweden to visit Saab must shed a tear. As the automaker descends to its dissolution, the majority of its 120-car museum collection is up for sale.
As an example of how deep the sale cuts, the first Saab, Ursaab (or 92001, for model 92, car number 1), is among those on the block. Included in the sale are a number of slick concepts cars, rally cars, a pair of Formula Juniors and even a stretched limo. If you’re interested, there is a pdf attached here that lists all the cars, though you’ll need someone who can read Swedish to suss out the details.
Walking the aisles of the Saab museum one can’t stop smiling over the uniqueness and inventiveness of Saab’s engineers. Quirky? Yes. Lovable? You bet.
Wonder if General Motors would have the corporate courage to pony up for one of the cars – Ursaab? – for its Heritage Center as a way of paying respect to the company it owned for 20 years?
