Toyota has just released the first official images of the restyled version of its Land Cruiser for the year 2012, marking the first major update of the model since its launch in 2007. From an aesthetic point of view, this new SUV isn’t that different from the previous model, with slightly different front bumper, mildly revised front grille, new layout of the headlights (now with integrated LED daylights) and slightly thinner tail lamps representing the major changes. However, Toyota gave the new Land Cruiser a number of new tech goods, including a multi-terrain monitor that utilizes four mini-cameras providing the driver with a 360 view what’s around him on a dash-mounted screen. The 2012 Land Cruiser will also be available with a multi-terrain select system that will allow drivers to modify traction control and brake settings by choosing among five possible modes: rock, rock & dirt, mogul, loose rock and mud & sand. Icing on the cake, the model will boast a turn-assist function that decreases the turning angle at very low speeds.

The refreshed Land Cruiser for the year 2012 will make its commercial debut in Japan on January 6th with a 4.6-litre V8 engine producing 318 hp and 460 Nm (339 lb/ft) of peak torque and coupled with a 6-speed sequential transmission, with prices starting at 4.4 million yen (approximately 43,200 € / 56,500 $ / 36,000 £). This new version of the Land Cruiser should soon appear on many other markets worldwide as well, with possibly some slight aesthetic changes and different engine ranges. The European version of the model is scheduled to make its debut at the upcoming 2012 European Motor Show in Brussels, Belgium (January 12-22).
