Is a Samsung Galaxy camera on the way?

Is a Samsung Galaxy camera on the way?: Is a Samsung Galaxy camera on the way?

A filing for a Samsung Galaxy camera trademark has sparked rumours that Samsung is about to launch (or at least is working on) a new OS based camera.

The news comes just weeks after Polaroid revealed its Android "smart camera" at CES 2012.

At present, no other camera companies have models with operating systems installed, which gives the benefits of being able to download apps to customise the way the camera works.

It would make sense for companies such as Sony and Samsung to develop app based cameras, as both already have smartphones in the market.

Coming soon

Last week, Olympus told us that apps were "on the list" of things that the company is working on, but a spokesperson for the company revealed that the culture of secrecy meant that giving people the option to change and alter their cameras would be difficult.

Samsung's trademark application was filed under the "Cameras and camcorders", suggesting that it's not just another product under its existing Galaxy line-up of mobile phones.
