As with every Black Series before it, the new C63 AMG Coupe isn’t likely to disappoint.
We’re expecting full details about the upcoming (and very sinister) 2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series within days, but it seems some Frenchmen at SpeedFans.fr have beaten everyone to the punch with pictures from a launch event on their home turf. (The full set of pics is currently not accessible, but keep checking here to see if they’re restored.)
What we can tell from what we’ve seen is that the AMG crew has one-upped itself again—it almost seems like the Mercedes management built the C-class coupe for the sole purpose of creating something cooler than the wicked CLK63 AMG Black Series. The photos also prove that we missed the mark in our original report on this car, where we predicted it would adopt AMG’s new 5.5-liter twin-turbo V-8. We can clearly see from the fender badges that it instead sticks with the normal C63’s 6.2-liter, although power will rise from the non-Black model’s 451 hp (or 481 hp with the Development Package) to more than 500. Figure on a price pushing $100K.
We’ll hold off on any other numerical prognostication until we have a full briefing from Mercedes-Benz, although we will direct your attention to the unique Black Series one-piece shell seats. (They likely won’t make it to U.S.-spec models, so don’t get too attached.) We’ll bring you a full report just as soon as the info hits our desks.
