Last week, an XKR press car we were supposed to receive was sidelined due to electrical problems. In a world full of reliable, competent machines, it’s somehow reassuring that life with a Jaguar is still always a little, um, eventful. With that in mind, Jaguar’s adding a bit more spice to the lives of vintage racers by celebrating the 50th anniversary of the always-glorious E-Type with a short racing series called the Jaguar North American Challenge. While it’s open to all manner of competition-oriented Jag-u-ars, there’s a special E-Type–only championship that is only open to the longnose cats.
The first race of the series is at Road America this weekend, followed by the Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Laguna Seca from August 19 to 21. The final race of the series is September 2–5 at Lime Rock. We’ve yet to hear back as to whether there will be a low-speed Series III E-type demo derby to test the efficacy of the cars’ ungainly bumperettes. We can, however, dream.
