Infiniti has revealed the first of seven images of the upcoming JX crossover ahead of the concept’s appearance during the Pebble Beach d’Elegance on August 18. Every Thursday for the next seven weeks a new teaser photo of the JX will be shown on Infiniti’s Facebook page. This initial image offers a glimpse of the headlights and muscular ridges that flow over the hood and along the sides of the vehicle. The design of the JX has been inspired by the Infiniti Essence Concept, a 592-bhp gasoline/electric hybrid coupe shown at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show.
“Families don’t have many luxury vehicle options today. The new Infiniti JX will be the 7-passenger antidote to the ho-hum luxury crossovers that are out there right now,” said Ben Poore, vice president of Infiniti Americas. The JX also fills a hole in the Infiniti lineup, which until now has lacked a larger SUV with seating for more than five adults. There is no official word yet about what engine and transmission Infiniti will offer – though Infiniti’s 3.5-liter V-6 seems certain to find its way under the hood. A hybrid model using a version of the supercharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder gasoline/electric powertrain seen in the Infiniti Etherea Concept is also likely.
The production version of the 2013 Infiniti JX debuts later this year during the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show. Sales begin in Spring 2012.
