From decal covered Hummers to mobile performance stage, the difficulty in commandeering New Yorkers’ attentions, even just for a second or two, is getting to be impossible. That is unless you’re Jay-Z and Kanye West. Under the guise of window covers, similar to Riccardo Tisci‘s design for the new collaborative album “Watch The Throne“, workers opened the doors to the album’s pop-up store Noon today. The first of its kind in recent memory, the storefront encompassed the entire Openhouse Gallery, a flex event space that hosted numerous private fashion event in the past. Upon the entrance is the centerpiece, the very $350,000 Maybach sedan dismantled during the Spike Jonze‘s “Otis” music video. While thoroughly taken apart and “re-engineered”, the vehicle is still in working condition and will be auction off at a later date to benefit drought relief charity in Northern Africa. In the aft-part of the gallery is mammoth projection screen with Jay-Z and Kanye West performing “Otis” in a constant loop. And for those who haven’t download “Watch The Throne” yet, Def Jam will offer the CD set for $15 US on site. The “Watch The Throne” Pop-Up Store will be open for the duration of this weekend.
