The French have made some very smooth-looking concept cars over the last couple of years, with models like the Citroen Survolt and Peugeot EX1. They haven’t all hit production, although Peugeot is back at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show with a brand new six-seater, plug-in hybrid MPV which takes on recent design language from the brand, such as the Peugeot 508.
On the new Mercedes B-Class being released, we’ve talked of the new battle taking place in the MPV segment, and this good looking HX1 Metamorphosis takes that one step further. Combining Peugeot’s latest Hybrid4 technology, we get a sloping, limousine-like MPV with plenty of space on the inside.
The HX1 Metamorphosis is 4.95 metres long, 1.37 metres tall and 1.99 metres wide. The four-door design is one that opens slightly upwards, further contributing to its limousine looks. Passenger seats are in three rows and the driver gets special easy access treatment with a completely movable steering wheel that can also be adjusted when the car is moving.
We don’t know where exactly Peugeot plans on taking this model, as it is fitted with some luxury materials including brushed metal, leather and fibre optic interior, with a centre console that includes minibar and coffee machine. The Hybrid4 system is the same as that used on the Peugeot 3008 and on the new 508 RXH, but on this vehicle is even more powerful.
The HX1 Metamorphosis gets a total of 299 hp from the four-cylinder, 2.2-litre diesel engine and 95 hp electric motor. A six-speed transmission is included and the lithium ion battery pack gives the car a zero emissions range of 30 km. Average fuel consumption is 3.2 l/100 km and CO2 emissions measure just 83 g/km. Other features include turbine-style alloy wheels and active aerodynamic rear spoilers. The HX1 Metamorphosis will be presented at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
