The Italian press has released the (mildly surprising?) news that Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne has said he will leave the new Fiat-Chrysler business within the next five years. In a press conference at the Center for Automotive Research in Michigan, the Italian-American executive talked of the Fiat-Chrysler alliance and its development prospects, before expressing himself on his own personal professional future.
Marchionne is already 59 years old and he has actually alluded to the fact that it would be pertinent for him in the future to make way for younger managers. Finally an executive who is interested in a future after they’ve left - we hope. The five years mentioned would take Marchionne through to about 2016.
