Volkswagen is already working on the next generation of its flagship Passat, as this new set of spy shots show. The new model should not be seeing the light of the day until 2014, but it is known that it will be developed on the new and flexible MQB platform, whose first offspring, the new Audi A3, will be officially unveiled at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. After that, the next car developed on the MQB platform to come out should be the much awaited VW Golf VII, which is expected to surface by the end of the current year.
Going back to the Passat, the pictured mule shows wider fenders, which would make us believe that the new model will have a wider track. That could also be an hint about the car gaining more room in the cabin, but we will have to wait to be sure about this. With the instrument cluster and parts of the dashboard covered up, it is fair to assume that this mule is already fitted with some parts of the new interior, but once again we cannot go any further than that, for now.
