The third month of the year seems like an appropriate time to encourage our intrepid photographers/readers in the quest to capture the magic of “three” in their compositions. There’s indeed a magical quality to this digit when applied to photography, or art in general, and something very pleasing to the eye – perhaps the third one! – when subjects are presented in “threes.” The rule of thirds, third time’s the charm, three pennies in a fountain – you’ve heard these concepts and cliches before. Now it’s time to literally apply them in your work with your camera. Make THREE the theme of your intention when hunting down images. Three clouds in the sky, three birds on a wire, three bottles of beer on the wall, the number 3 literally on your mailbox…whatever your heart desires. Or if you’d rather apply the three theme in a unique way, think in terms of a triptych – three images that tell a single story or relate to one another in some fashion. Certainly, this approach is appropriate to the idea. “March” on in there and grab those threes. As in the Japanese written form of haiku and in the spirit of this assignment, we would like you to submit exactly 3 images. Not one, nor two or beyond three. Precisely three!

• 72 ppi
• 600 pixels on the longest side
• If possible, we’d love it if the images you submit have your name in the file name and include a watermark (that’s the “© John Doe” at the bottom of the pic).

Submitted images will appear in an online gallery on Paper Airplanes, RMSP’s blog on or about March 30, 2012. All images will be used in the online gallery for this specific assignment only and will be copyrighted to the photographer. An email confirmation will be sent once your submission is received. If you do not receive the email confirmation, please contact bobm@rmsp.com.
