We must admit, we’re starting to feel a bit like paparazzi. Here we have this beautiful celebrity, the Aston Martin V-12 Zagato, and we just can’t stop following it as it travels around the world. One day it’s at Villa d’Este, the next it’s at the Nürburgring, then Pebble Beach. And now, we’re happy to report that the Zagato will make its first truly public appearance in September when it shows up on the Aston Martin stand at the Frankfurt auto show.
Nothing much has changed since we first started following the car in May, including the steep pricing that was announced in July. You may recall that two examples of the car raced in the Nürburgring 24 Hours. For the Frankfurt show, the green car (nicknamed “Zig” by Aston) remains dressed in its racing gear, complete with a front splitter, dive planes, a rear diffuser, plus a wing tacked on to the decklid. The other, called “Zag,” has been returned to the original form in which it debuted at the Villa d’Este Concours. Actually, Aston left the race interior, but the exterior appearance of the red car is more representative of the road car.
While 150 lucky customers can already drop a deposit on this $537,000 sculpture for the street, they will have to wait until midway through 2012 for production to begin and, depending on each person’s place in line, a few months more for delivery. As for us commoners, we hope Frankfurt is just the first of a series of shows where we can go and continue to gawk at this superstar.
