As with the last two iterations of the A3, it appears that Audi has initially built a 3-door version of the new model. At least that’s what it looks like from these spy shots of a matte black A3 roaming the streets of South America.

Although the front and rear sections of the 2013 Audi A3 have some disguise, the rest of its body is free from any dizzying swirly camouflage. And from what we can see, the profile from the second-generation A3 returns, albeit zestier. The shoulder lines running across the flanks are much more pronounced and muscular in the new A3 and its hood looks to be more raked. Our spy photographers assert the new A3 chassis will continue to be based on the PQ35—similar to the Volkswagen Golf’s platform—so it should stay close to the same size. Bigger isn’t always better, especially when it comes to dimensions.

The revamped headlights with their notched design carry the modern Audi motif, bearing a resemblance to the new A6…not necessarily a bad thing. Expect Audi’s signature LED treatment for illumination. As for the rear of the spied A3, the taillights are well concealed, precluding any observations; however, the dual exhaust tips exiting beneath the bumper are in full view. (more)
