The 2012 BMW 650i coupe and convertible can now be ordered with the automaker’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system. While the all-wheel-drive 6-series coupe was both expected and understandable—Mercedes fits it standard to the CL550 coupe—the addition of the option to the 650i convertible seems to be targeting buyers within a niche of a niche of a niche. There will also be a six-cylinder 640i, but as we previously reported, that model remains rear-drive only.
Of course, BMW isn’t giving away all-wheel drive for free, and any 6er so equipped will see an additional $3000 added to the bottom line, regardless of the roof. This means that the 2012 650i xDrive coupe starts at $86,875 and at a hefty $94,375 for the convertible. Ordering is open now; deliveries begin in October.
