Toyota Prices 2012 Prius V from $27,160 and Prius Plug-In Hybrid from $32,760

Toyota Prices 2012 Prius V from $27,160 and Prius Plug-In Hybrid from $32,760:

Toyota has priced its latest additions to the Prius family, and the 2012 Prius V starts at $27,160 and the plug-in version of the Prius at $32,760. The tall, more family-friendly Prius V comes with a pile of standard equipment: Bluetooth and USB connectivity, a 6.1-inch audio system display, a backup camera, 16-inch aluminum wheels, and driver door keyless entry. For more toys, there are two options packages. The first, priced at $765 adds a navigation system and Toyota’s Entune infotainment system. For $30,750 total, a fully loaded Prius V gets 17-inch wheels, heated front seats, LED headlights, and SofTex pseudo leather seats.

The Prius plug-in (or PHEV) swaps the standard Prius’s nickel-metal hydride battery pack for a more advanced, lighter lithium-ion pack. The added juice capacity allows the plug-in Prius to travel 15 miles at up to 62 mph on electricity alone. The bigger battery costs more money though, and the base Prius plug-in costs a hefty $8480 more than the cheapest regular Prius. The plug-in does at least feature more standard content than an economy-grade Prius, adding heated seats, navigation, Entune, a backup camera, and LED running lights, but it’s still $4680 more than a comparably equipped non-plug-in car. For an even-richer $40,285 you can step up to the Prius plug-in Advanced, which adds premium audio along with SofTex upholstery, dynamic cruise control, a power driver’s seat, LED headlamps, and the ability for the nav display to show the locations of charging stations.

The Prius hasn’t yet been EPA tested, but Toyota expects it will be rated at 87 mpge when run as an EV, and the same 49 mpg combined as the normal Prius. Toyota also expects that buyers will be able to cash in on a $2500 Federal tax credit, but the car’s qualification for it isn’t yet complete. The Prius V will hit dealerships in October, but the Prius PHEV will only be available for order in 14 states by next month with deliveries starting in the spring of 2012.
