Twin Ring Motegi-Qualifying

Twin Ring Motegi-Qualifying:

Scott Dixon

Despite some cloud cover it was another hot day at Twin Ring Motegi, but that didn’t bother Scott Dixon, who put his Honda-powered Target Ganassi IndyCar on the pole for the Sunday race. This is Dixon’s 17th career pole, and will make him the only driver to take that spot on Twin Ring Motegi’s oval and road courses.

Will Power

Next to Dixon will be Will Power, the Penske driver who is just five points behind Dario Franchitti for the title. Power will start four rows ahead of Dixon’s Target Ganassi teammate, Franchitti, who qualified 9th.

Third spot was taken by another Ganassi driver, Graham Rahal, who will be next to Penske driver, Ryan Briscoe.

Japanese race fans really get into the sport, many of them decked out in the colors and costumes of their favorite teams. Just say Takuma Sato and they’ll come running for a chance to spot their hero. On his first lap you can hear the cheer from the stands. We’re not certain what “No Attack, No Chance” means, but it is on many of the banners in Sato’s honor.

Though fans on the East Coast have to wait until 11:30 pm to watch the race on Versus, this is an event the West Coaster love. Fire up the barbecue late, crank back and love that 8:30 pm start time. Almost makes up for all those 4:30 am wake-up calls to watch the European GPs…almost.
