It looks like the 2012 Hyundai Veloster will be one of the many “car” stars on display when the 2011 SEMA Show opens its doors on Nov 1st in Las Vegas.
Hyundai has aggressively promoted heavily modified variants of its models at the trade-only show for the past several years. Last year the Genesis Coupe was the highlight. This year it looks like the Veloster will shine.
Check out the brief details on two of the modified Velosters that will be showcased at SEMA.
ARK Performance’s “rally-ready” Veloster is aimed at those who want more performance. It has a custom twin-scroll turbocharger that ups the stock 1.6-liter engine’s output from 138 to 210 horsepower.
“The Hyundai Veloster is an ideal car for enthusiasts with its distinctive design and dynamic architecture,” said Ted Lee, owner, ARK Performance Inc. “At SEMA, our ARK Performance Veloster will bridge the realm between an affordable sports car and an extreme motor sports vehicle. From the first Tiburon, to the Genesis Coupe, and now with the Veloster, ARK Performance continues to uphold the torch as the pioneer of aftermarket performance manufacturing for Hyundai.”
The second Veloster is slightly tamer. Hyundai partnered with PM Lifestyle, the publisher of Wrecked Magazine the official digital magazine of drifting, and the Universal Technical Institute (UTI) to produce this car. With an anticipated performance of 163-horsepower, PM Lifestyle’s custom Veloster will showcase a long list of aftermarket products.
“The modifications made by PM Lifestyle and UTI to the all-new Veloster will highlight vehicle modifications that can be achieved in real-world garages,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president, Product and Corporate Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “This year’s SEMA crowd will be able to interact with the final design of this Veloster on the showroom floor, providing a unique and tangible look at the tuning process.”
After this year’s SEMA Show ends the bold, blue Veloster with a carbon-fiber hood, Konig Deception wheels and custom leather interior will go on a three-year show tour with UTI, making appearances at over 120 autocross, supercross and school demonstration events. UTI is a nationwide provider of technical education training for students seeking careers as professional automotive, diesel, collision repair, motorcycle and marine technicians.
