Just learned from Volkswagen today that its global workforce reached 500,000 people in 2011, an increase of 100,000 compared to 2010. That’s a lot of people. The increase, says VW, is attributable to the integration of some new companies, plus the creation of 28,000 new jobs throughout the world. Of those 28,000 new workers, 7000 are in Germany, 11,000 are in other European countries, and 10,000 are outside Europe, especially in China, India and the U.S., where the new Chattanooga plant employs about 2300 people.
