Escape to Europe: Ford Kuga Unveiled for the Continent [Geneva Auto Show]:
This is what the 2013 Ford Escape looks like wearing a wide number plate. The company made good on its One Ford promise to roll the European Kuga and our Escape into one global vehicle, with the 2013 Kuga making its debut in Geneva. The names were retained in each market because they were already well-known.
Aside from the badges, aesthetic differences are limited to, well, we don’t see much difference at all. You’ll note that this European model has pop-out headlamp washers, a feature that we can pretty much guarantee won’t ever be offered on the American Escape. (Head here for a 2013 Ford Escape photo gallery; Kuga photos can be found below.)
And that brings us to content differences: While the cars are shared under Ford’s global umbrella, the engine strategy might as well be called Two Powertrains, as each market gets its own tailored set of engine options. Our Escape will be available with a choice of three gasoline four-cylinders; the Kuga will launch with two versions of Ford’s 2.0-liter turbo-diesel four. The 1.6-liter EcoBoost gasoline engine, one of the mills available in the U.S., will be added later.
Like the Escape, the Kuga will go on sale later in 2012 as a 2013 model.
