Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster
The 125th birthday of the Mercedes-Benz 1886 Patent Motorwagen is only one of the reasons the German automaker is celebrating during this year’s Pebble Beach festivities, held from August 16-21. Five special vehicle classes on the famed 18th fairway will include priceless Mercedes classics, including nine pre-war Grand Prix cars. Other notable additions wearing the three-pointed star will be a Mercedes-Benz 380K-770K, along with 300 SL Gullwings and Roadsters.
“The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance showcases special vehicles every year, but this coming weekend establishes a new realm to mark a historical milestone for the Mercedes-Benz brand,” said Ernst Lieb, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA. Modern Mercedes machines will also play an important role, with the 2012 SLS AMG Roadster and Concept A-Class (unveiled at the New York Auto Show) set to be on display.
And if you want to take home the ultimate souvenir, raise your auction paddle on Saturday, August 20, to bid on the1937 Mercedes-Benz 540 K Spezial Roadster. The car, chassis 154140, is one of only three surviving examples. RM Auctions is handling the sale and it’s expected the car will set a new world record for a Mercedes-Benz sold at auction.
