The long name of this latest hard charger from the makers of cars badged with the fighting bull is applied to a road-going version of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Cup racer. The 2012 Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale is a limited run (only 150 will be built) supercar distinguished by its large rear wing that generates three times the downforce of the spoiler used on the standard car. This aero piece and the quick-release engine cover are made of carbon fiber, which helps to further reduce mass on this new flagship Gallardo. The Super Trofeo Stradale tips the scales at 2948 lb., almost 150 less than the standard car.
Beneath the engine cover is the Gallardo’s 5.2-liter V-10, which produces 570 bhp at 8000 rpm. The engine is mated to an e-gear 6-speed sequential-shift manual with an automatic clutch. The car is equipped with a “Thrust” mode that launches the car with minimal tire slippage when the engine reaches 5000 rpm. Unlike other Cup cars that favor rear-drive, the standard all-wheel-drive layout is retained in the Super Trofeo Stradale. The factory says the lighter weight contributes to the car’s stunning performance. Top speed is 199 mph, and the car reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in only 3.4 sec. Just as impressive, the Super Trofeo Stradale hits 200 km/h (124 mph) in just 10.4 sec.
Also setting the Gallardo LP 570-4 Trofeo Stradale apart is the “Rosso Mars” paint scheme that pays homage to Italy’s national racing color, red. The finish is offset by matte-black finish on the rear wing, engine cover and front intakes, while the 19-in. lightweight alloy wheels are a high-gloss black. Buyers can also opt for a gloss-black roof. The rocker panel covers, the rear diffuser and outside mirror housings are made of highly polished carbon fiber.
