2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Coupe Starts at $54,995, Convertible at $59,995:
Ford has priced the heavily updated 2013 Mustang Shelby GT500, starting from $54,995 for the coupe and $59,995 for the convertible. We’ve covered the new Shelby at length, partially because every time we see its output numbers—650 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque—we get a pleasant tickle in our nether regions. Have we mentioned it can hit 200 mph? Then, just as it seemed as if our anticipation for the car couldn’t grow any further, we were taken for a ride in a GT500 development mule. Even on snow tires, we duly noted the car’s awesomeness. But back to its pricing.
We were previously told to expect the 2013 GT500 coupe to start at less than $60,000, but $54,995 is quite a bit less than that. Better still, that price represents only a $5390 bump over the 2012 model. The new convertible’s price goes up by the same $5390, to $59,995. Fans of the pony war between Ford and Chevrolet take note: The coupe’s base price matches that of the 2012 Camaro ZL1. Both the coupe and convertible can be had with the $3495 SVT Performance package, which includes a Torsen limited-slip differential, forged-aluminum wheels (19-inchers up front, 20s in the rear), Bilstein adjustable dampers, unique rear springs, and a special gauge cluster and shift knob. Unfortunately, even with the additional SVT bits, the convertible’s top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph.
It goes without saying that the Shelby GT500 is one heck of a bargain, and we can’t wait to get our mitts on one and put it through our testing procedures. Look for such a test soon: the coupe goes on sale in May, followed by the convertible later in the summer.
