A 1986 Jaguar Series III XJ6 once owned by Frank Sinatra is headed to auction on June 25-26, courtesy of Julien’s Auctions Gallery in Beverly Hills. According to the sales description, the car (VIN SAJAVI34X6C453725) maintains all the “charisma and sex appeal” of Sinatra. Powered by a 4.2-liter straight-6 and automatic transmission, the lithe-looking Jaguar sedan appears to have aged gracefully during its 25 years. Though a starting price of only $5,000 has us wondering if some gremlins could be lurking beneath the curvaceous sheet metal.
Items like the XJ6’s power front seats, vacuum fluorescent bar graph engine gauges, and automatic climate system all sound nice in a sales catalogue. They sound even better if you’re a Jaguar mechanic, tasked with keeping everything in tip-top shape. The car’s sales estimate is between $10,000 and $20,000 – which is about three or four times what you’d pay for an XJ6 owned by your average Joe.
However, another item in the auction is certain to upstage even Sinatra (or at least his old Jag). The red leather jacket worn by Michael Jackson in 1983’s ‘Thriller’ music video is also on the block. Julien’s Auction Gallery expects bidding to reach $200,000 to $400,000 for the iconic piece of music memorabilia.
