Fujifilm adds retro X10 to line-up

Fujifilm adds retro X10 to line-up: Fujifilm adds retro X10 to line-up

Fujifilm has added a new premium compact camera to its range. The X10 features a 2/3 inch 12 megapixel EXR-CMOS sensor and f/2.0 lens (at the wide angle end). The lens is also a zoom lens, with 4 x optical capability.

Sitting alongside the Fujifilm X100 which was released in March, the X10 also includes an optical zoom viewfinder with a wide viewing angle.

Made from die-cast magnesium alloy, the camera is designed to be lightweight, yet strong. The mode dials and lens ring also feature an aluminium milled textured finish.

Designed for speedy shooting in mind, the zoom lens doubles up as an on/off power switch, allowing photographers to react quickly to events unfolding in front of them.

The newly developed f/2.0 wide-angle and f/2.8 telephoto 4x optical zoom lens has been newly developed for the X10 and features high-definition Super EBC (Electron Beam Coating) which is designed to give image clarity.

The lens consists of 11 glass lens elements in 9 groups which includes 3 aspherical glass lens elements (6 sides) and 2 extra-low dispersion lens elements.

A new Optical Image Stabilisation mechanism has also been developed to help reduce the blur that results from camera shake. The lens can take super macro shots as close up as 1cm.

In combination with the macro function, the 7-blade aperture produces a soft-focus "bokeh" effect to give attractive portrait backgrounds.

Sensor

The sensor, which is smaller than the APS-C sized sensor found on the X100, is a 2/3 inch 12 megapixel EXR-CMOS sensor. It has approximately twice the sensor area of existing Fujifilm camera models. The EXR technology found on the sensor is designed for low-light shooting with low noise levels.

High speed continuous shooting is available at up to 7 frames per second at full 12 megapixel resolution and 10 fps at the reduced 'M' resolution size.

A 49-point matrix contrast AF boasts high-speed and high-precision auto focusing, while a shutter-release lag of approximately 0.01 seconds also allows for quick shooting. The X10 can capture shots between IS0 100 and IS0 12,800.

EXR-Auto intelligent scene recognition can change settings dependent on the scene in front of the camera as well as detecting people and difficult to photograph backlight conditions and moving subjects. A total of 99 different shooting variations is available.

Film Simulation modes are available from within the camera, with eight settings to include Velvia, PROVIA and ASTIA to recreate traditional Fuji films.

Manual

The camera includes semi-automatic and manual shooting modes, such as program, aperture priority, shutter speed priority and manual mode and also includes a manual pop-up flash. On the rear of the camera is a 2.8 inch high contrast LCD monitor and an electronic horizon levelling gauge.
