Over 50 Debuts Promised – 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show Preview

Over 50 Debuts Promised – 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show Preview:

Mastretta MXT

This year’s LA Auto Show, which opens its doors to the public on Nov 18, looks set to be one of the best shows in years with more than 50 new vehicle debuts. While many of these have already been seen at shows overseas or already announced by manufacturers there are at least a dozen that have yet to be announced. Hopefully the manufacturers of those cars will keep the identities secret until the media day on Nov 16 – it’s always nice to have last minute surprises.

There will even be the U.S. debut of a car from an entirely new manufacturer — the Mastretta MXT from Mexico.

Here’s a partial list of the scheduled debuts:

  • Audi S6

  • Audi S7

  • Audi S8

  • Audi R8 GT Spyder

  • Bentley Continental GTC, BMW i3 Concept

  • BMW i8 Concept

More than half of the debuts, like the 2012 Audi R8 GT Spyder, 2012 Porsche 911 and Jaguar C-X16 sports car concept, fall in the performance and luxury vehicle category. After giving the show a miss last year, Bentley is returning to premiere the 2012 Continental GTC convertible. The show will also feature the fifth-generation BMW M5, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster and, as already revealed the world’s most powerful production convertible, the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. Appropriately enough, in sunny LA, there are at least a half dozen convertibles debuting at the LA show.

Sliding down the scale a little, Hyundai will premiere the 2012 Azera. And, as we’ve already revealed, the Fiat 500 Abarth will join other “super” compact debuts including the Ford Fiesta ST and the Mazda3 SkyActiv.

If you’re interested in a more practical everyday “family” vehicle the LA Auto Show will see the world debuts of two significant crossover SUVs – the Ford Escape and Honda CRV. Mazda also has a new entry in this category with the North American debut of its all-new CX-5 crossover.

For those of you in Southern California, a visit to the L.A. Auto Show also gives you an opportunity to see an entire hall dedicated to the latest specialty vehicles, automotive accessories and customizing trends. There you’ll find everything from exotic custom cars, wheels, tires and performance products, to the latest mobile, audio and entertainment systems. A few highlights include Galpin Auto Sports (GAS) showcase of more than 15 custom vehicle premieres, including the 2012 Ford Explorer XXVI with a heart pounding 2000 WATT sound system, a 1000 horsepower wide-body 2012 Shelby Supersnake and “Thunder,” a highly modified 540 horsepower 2012 Ford F-150.
