The race tracks of the Upper Midwest have largely been spared— so far— from the spectacle of a rhinestone-covered Dodge Dynasty dicing with a Studebaker-engined Isuzu P’up. That will change on August 20th, when the carnies of the 24 Hours of LeMons Traveling Circus roll into the paddock at legendary Road America. Residents of eastern Wisconsin should expect critical shortages of Bar’s Leaks and JB Weld once the race weekend gets started, and let us assure them now that the cloud of clutch smoke hanging over Elkhart Lake will blow off eventually.
In honor of former Car and Driver editor-in-chief and LeMons racer Csaba “How Do You Pronounce That?” Csere (shown above staring in befuddlement at the fried wheel bearing on his Prelude at last year’s Detroit Irony event), the first-ever Road America LeMons race will be called the Chubby Cheddar Enduro. Stock up on cheese curds and Leinenkugels, throw a cage into grandma’s Eldorado Brougham d’Elegance, and sign up for the race while there’s still space for your hooptie!
