2012 Peugeot 208 XY Concept
To add pizzazz to the launch of the next-generation 2012 Peugeot 208 hatchback, the French automaker has brought two concepts to Geneva that offer a take on chic urban design—the XY and the more performance-oriented GTi. Peugeot won’t say if these will be offered as specific trim levels.

The XY Concept is clearly geared toward fashionistas. Its purple color of its 16-coat Pulsion paint scheme constantly shifts shades. Other show car features include the giant 18-in. wheels, a glass roof and a custom grille. The XY spares no expense in the cabin, which is fitted with leather seats, special ambient lighting and gunmetal-colored trim. The powertrain is more prosaic—a 1.6-liter electrically assisted turbodiesel making 115 hp. The front-drive hatch features a 6-speed manual transmission.

Closer to reality is the sporty Peugeot 208 GTi Concept, which boasts 197 bhp and 203 lb.-ft. of torque from its turbocharged 1.6-liter gasoline engine. Like the XY, it comes equipped with a 6-speed manual driving the front wheels. While the paint scheme is more subdued, the car looks much more aggressive thanks to its wider track, larger disc brakes, 18-in. wheels and a body kit that includes a spoiler, larger front fascia, rear diffuser and rocker extensions. Inside, the GTi is fitted with sport bucket seats trimmed in leather (with cloth inserts), Alcantara on the dash and door panels, a sport steering wheel, aluminum pedals and backlit LED gauges.
