In the wake of a recent interview with Toyota chief engineer Tetsuya Tada, more rumors about a new Supra emerge. According to the Japanese correspondent of renowned American magazine Motortrend.com, Toyota is already working on a new sportscar allegedly powered by a 3.5 litre V6 hybrid powertrain producing over 400 hp. The model, with the styling of the FT-HS concept that we saw at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show (pictured), is currently being tested in Japan and should eventually turn out to be the new generation of the historic Supra.
However, it seems that Toyota’s accountants are not too fond of the project at the moment, as they would like to see what sort of response the new Toyota GT 86 (and Scion FR-S in the US) will get from the market before giving it the go-ahead. In other words, if the project will eventually get the thumbs up, the new Supra won’t be ready before 2015 anyway.
