The thing about launching a new 11.6 inch laptop into an already busy marketplace is always going to be a challenge, but if anyone can do it, Asus can. The Eee PC 1225B is smart looking piece of kit and it has the added bonus of being powered by AMD’s most powerful E-series accelerated processor the Brazos E-450. This laptop has nice clean lines and comes in a choice of colour, Matte Gray, Red or Silver and Glossy Black or White, other than that it looks very similar to other Asus models still available.
But it comes with some interesting features such as the 11.6 inch LED Backlight WXGA Screen with a 1366 x 768 of pixel resolutions and there is a built in lo-res 0.3 mega pixel web camera. There is a choice of processor from the AMD Fusion APU E450 1.65 GHz (dual core) or the C60 1.0 GHz (dual core) Processor and when it comes to graphics there is the AMD Radeon HD 6320 or the AMD Radeon HD 6290 graphic cards to think about. The on board memory starts at 2 GB but can go up to 4 GB of DDR3 RAM. When it comes to storage, the buyer gets to choose from a 320 GB, 500 GB or 750 GB hard disk drive (HDD).
No laptop would be any good without networking capabilities such as the WLAN 802.11 b/g/n @2.4 GHz, as well the handy Bluetooth V3.0+ HS as an option. Connectivity of covered by one standard USB 2.0, two fast USB 3.0, an HDMI port and a multi card reader for SD, SDHC, SDXC and MMC. Asus has chosen a 6-Cell 56 Wh Li-ion Battery and they claim that it will be good for up to seven hours of use while running on the Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium operating system. As for size, the Eee PC 1225B measures 296 mm x 200 mm x 28 mm to 35 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 1.44 Kgs with the 6 cell battery installed.
Currently Asus are selling the Eee PC 1225B in Europe with a price tag of around 350 Euros, which is about $460 for US buyers.
