Some forget that Lamborghini built one of the legendary SUVs, the bellowing, broad-chested LM002.
Now the Italian supercar maker is apparently headed back into the SUV business and will show a design study at next month’s 2012 Beijing Auto Show. Another prime example of the influence China is having on the supercar world.
Just as the upcoming Porsche Macan SUV will be based on the Audi Q5, the Lambo will dip onto the Volkswagen corporate parts bin for the vehicle’s underpinnings. This would be the next-gen architecture that will be used for revised VW Touareg, Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne and the reported Bentley we might see at this year’s Geneva Show. Naturally the Lambo SUV will have a front engine, likely the Gallardo 5.2-liter V-10, which would put horsepower in the 560-580 range. Given Lamborghini’s fondness for messing with carbon fiber, we could see that material used to slide the SUV’s weight under that of its corporate cousins.
Styling? Suggestions we’ve seen graft an enlarged version of the Gallaro’s face on tall body, but then again, as Lamborghini proved with the LM002, brutal can be beautiful.
