While most laptop manufacturers are looking at the ultrabook as the next step portable computing evolution, it seems that Acer have not yet given up on the netbook and with their latest machine the Aspire One D270 being passed by the FCC, it will be appearing in the stores very soon.
According to the listing on the FCC site, they have passed a new model from Acer called the Acer ZE7, but it notes that the netbook could go to market with any one of the following names, Aspire One D270, Aspire One AOD270, or Acer Aspire One Happy.
Whatever name that Acer decide to go with, the specs and features remain the same starting with the 10 inch CrystalBrite LED backlit display with a 1024 x 600 of pixel resolutions and it has the standard built in 0.3 mega pixel web camera too.
The D270 will be one of the first netbooks to come with latest Intel Atom N2600 Cedar Trail CPU; in this case, it will be the 1.6GHz dual-core processor version. While graphics will be coming from the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3600.
Acer have stuck with the tried and tested internal memory for netbooks with the 1 GB of DDR3 RAM, but they have gone large when it comes to storage with a 320 GB hard disk drive (HDD) with the option to expand through the external SD slot.
Other features on the D270 are the handy HDMI output for connecting to TV, three standard USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet LAN, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi; it will be running Microsoft Windows 7 Starter operating system and comes with the Microsoft Office Starter edition as well.
It is just about an inch thick and weighs in at very manageable two and half pounds with the 6 cell battery pack installed, which Acer say should be good enough up to eight hours of operation.
When the Acer Aspire One D270 goes on sale, it is expected to be priced at a very nice $280.
