The Flare series was first spotted months ago, but it has taken Asus until now to start shipping. Basically, there are two versions of the Flare netbook; they are the 1025C and 1025CE.
It seems that they are virtually identical apart from the fact that the 1025CE has two USB 3.0 ports, one regular USB 2.0 port and a choice of three colours. While the 1025C only has the standard USB 2.0 connectivity, but comes with a choice of eight colours.
The Flare series comes with a 10.1 inch LED backlit display with a 1024 x 600 of pixel resolutions and a built in smart camera featuring a 4 x zoom with a handy cover for privacy.
It will be powered by the latest power saving 1.8 GHz Intel Atom Cedar Trail dual core processor and supports the ASUS Super Hybrid Engine II with Instant On technology feature allowing the computer to resume from sleep in just two seconds.
There is just 1 GB of DDR3 memory but this can be expanded up to 2 GB. While storage starts with a small 250 GB hard disk drive (HDD) but this can also be expanded up to 500 GB. With built in 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connecting to the internet is easy and connectivity is provided by the normal USB ports and there is even an HDMI output making it easy to connect to a HD television.
The Flare series weighs in at only 1.25 kilos (2.75 pounds) with the six cell battery installed that Asus claims will offer the user up to twelve hours of run time, which would be really handy if it is the case in the real world.
The Asus Eee PC 1025 Flare series netbook will have a starting price of around $300!
