Back in June, we got confirmation of an AMG version of the latest ML crossover. Mercedes has now told us that the model, the 2012 ML63, will make its debut at next month’s L.A. show and go on sale early next year. We don’t have any further details, although we anticipate this model will drop the naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V-8 in favor of the more efficient twin-turbo 5.5-liter V-8 found in the E63 and CL63, among others. The 5.5-liter makes at least 518 hp in these applications, so that’s the baseline for next-gen ML63 muscle. While you’re waiting for the full scoop, check out our first drive of the 2012 ML and our dirt-track camping trip in the previous ML63—that should kill at least a couple of minutes.
